Love these posts man.

Somewhat off topic, apologies in advance. I need a sub/compact 9. Had a Glock 19, liked it. Looking at budget, single stacks are ok. I can start my own thread too. Starting over from scratch.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

why not get a glock 19

what did you dislike

also what generation was it

1moar ago

Sold in a desperate need of cash. Hate that I had to do it, but $500 doesn't come easy and means the difference between wheels, to do better, and being stuck. It was a gen 4.

I'd like to get a pair, tbh. But that's a ways off.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

glocks are a great balance of reliability and affordability

if you didnt dislike it i suggest looking for a used glock online

lots of police tradeins for 400 or less

dont be afraid of gen 2 or 3 either

1moar ago

Personally, I love glocks. Can handle and strip em, eyes closed...which, a person should be able to with any piece. Anywho...omw to work, ot for this nigga, who knows, I might have enough on my next check for an LCP at least.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

i replaced my stolen glock with a bersa firestorm

no ragrets

1moar ago

Checked my hours for this coming check, and it's buying time next weekend.

Oh yeah.

How's the Bersa?

clamhurt_legbeard ago

i love the bersa

check it

light

accurate

thin with my custom grips

it goes pew pew real good

im carrying that or the j frame

or both

every day

1moar ago

Well shit, I even replied. Ok.

I figured out what I'm getting. Canoe trip coming up, bear country.

CrustyBeaver52 ago

There is only so much ammo one man can carry.

This one uses it very quickly.

That doesn't mean I don't want one:)

clamhurt_legbeard ago

german squad tactics had everybody else carrying more ammo

the whole squad was basically just there to make the machinegun go

that means get your friends to carry a backpack full of ammo lol

Battlefat ago

like car money

The more I think about it, that’s not too bad, considering I’ve owned a fair share of cars. None held their retail value and certainly none appreciated the way automatic rifles do year over year. Other than wear and tear, ammo cost and initial expense, I’m unsure the downside of acquiring one outside of increased scrutiny and having to buy new pants

clamhurt_legbeard ago

appreciated

guns are an excellent investment

the problem is im not kidding about 500 bucks in 30 seconds lol

notice how in videos they only do short bursts

AlexanderMorose13 ago

Fuck yeah. I love it.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

dude yes

i got more machineguns to talk about too

BearDolphin1488 ago

Nice dude.

I carried a 240b and then 240l into combat.. machine guns are just beautiful.

I carried a mk48 for a while but the rate of fire was too fast for me, I prefer the sound of a slowed down 240

clamhurt_legbeard ago

niiiice

its funny how you can get so much variety out of

make a gun that shoots rifle rounds really fast

its great hearing from guys who have used them too

its my favorite part lol

Epictetus_Hierapolis ago

I have an mg42, and half of the kubel it will be mounted on. https://files.catbox.moe/29mxy4.jpg

clamhurt_legbeard ago

no

fucking

waaaaaay

thats fucking awesome

ok so this is an excellent opportunity

what are your thoughts on comparing the mg42 and the 240

Epictetus_Hierapolis ago

Clearing the feed tray, loading, and remediation feed failures is virtually identical. Operating the weapon does not feel the same at all though due to the different rates of fire and weight distribution. One thing I really noticed was the constant failures of the 240s, almost always eating a link. The comments were always 'because Marines, we get old broken shit', but I rarely had failures on the 34s and 42s that I ran belts of blanks through and they were 70 years old.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

ive heard of many complaints from the second generation of guys using m60s

the m60 is very lightly constructed and wears

if you get a worn one it gives a bunch of headaches

meanwhile the seals prefer the m60 over the 240 because they can afford to maintain it so much better

i wonder if the 240s were getting worn out

assuming an excellent condition example of each

which was better with fire rate and weigt distribution in your experience

Epictetus_Hierapolis ago

Really depends. Obviously I'm using the 42 in a quasi tactical situation, and it really looses all suppressive ability when you factor in the blanks and the fact that fat American reenactors are impervious to anything us SS throw at them. Another limiting factor is that I am not dealing with a huge amount of recoil with the 34 or 42, and blanks weigh a lot less.

In ideal situations, for their respective time periods, all other factors theoretically equal, I would take the 240. Not because it is a better gun, but strictly due to logistics.

The 42 is a cleaner weapon, is easier and more manageable to carry, has less upward stray, a much higher volume of fire, and is scary as hell to be downrange of (I've pulled pits downrange of one, they are fucking terrifying. A 240 or 249 is like a hornets nest of buzzing and snapping, the 42 is indescribable in ferocity). The drawback, and I see it as a major drawback, is the limitations in the amount of ammo a fire team can carry in comparison to the rate of fire. That may entirely be doctrine based, as I've always reenacted with other vets of Iraq and Afghanistan, so it is entirely possible that our employment of the 42 is completely out of practice with how the heer or SS would have used it. While we do try to conduct squad operations in a historical manner, there are implicit biases due to our years of knowing we had quick resupply. Comparably at least.

We can keep 2000 rds of ammo spread out between the squad, panzer, and half track, but even in the very limited scale of a reenactment we burn through on hand ammo within seconds. It's fairly difficult to get a tracked vehicle to stop and let you get supplies without a squad radio.

This leaves the 42 limited to short bursts of high intensity fire and maneuver. Once riflemen are withing effective range, it is usually up to them to engage and destroy. With the 240, you can pump rounds downrange and still have some to spare for consolidation and security within the same amount of time.

None of that, however, can hide the massive boner you get firing a 34 or 42 at a group of American reenactors.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

'I've pulled pits downrange of one, they are fucking terrifying.

hoooly fuck lol

i bet thats quite an experience

It's fairly difficult to get a tracked vehicle to stop and let you get supplies without a squad radio.

a very amusing comparison of the practical advantages of modern technology

boner

hahaha

excellent

big thanks for sharing your detailed experiences

this is great

Epictetus_Hierapolis ago

When you finally get around to the scar(because it had better be a gun clammy likes), give me a heads up so I can clean off all the white paint pen writing on it.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

fuck yes

i havent forgotten

now that i did the ar i need to do the attempted improvements

you promised pictures and video heh heh

Really cool read, so much history surrounding the development of the machine gun.

So what’s this about you “hearing about plans being fast”? Lol...

clamhurt_legbeard ago

funny joke

how do you know if somebody is a pilot

answer

oh theyll tell you lol

Nadeshda ago

Oh yeah they will... lol... you guys are cool! :)

thedirtypuma ago

Awesome read as always. Thank you. Machine guns by themselves are a really interesting subject. Many people thought that the invention of them would be enough of a deterrent to never have another war again. lol

That takedown was impressive. Kraut engineering at its best.

clamhurt_legbeard ago

theyre like this is great

one gun with the destructive power of a hundred rifles

now the army can send fewer men and have fewer casualties

meanwhile the army is like

one gun with the destructive power of a hundred rifles

now we can send all our men with these and cause so many more casualties

lol

as for machineguns

i need to do a couple of these now

i hadnt gotten to them until now
