ok so pistols
guys today were talking about the ppk
you already know this gun
its james bonds gun
i dont even need to tell you that
its a really good gun too
plus its pretty old
did you know it turns 90 this year
true facts
happy birthday little guy
so back in 1929 a little company called walther was making guns in the historic german gunmaking center of thuringia
walther had been in business for a few decades but hadnt really hit it big yet
they went through a process of making a number of weird looking guns
but then they hit gold with the pp and ppk
pp stands for polizei pistole
or police pistol
walther had come up with some design tricks to make the gun safe to carry but quick to fire
and they thought itd be perfect for german policemen
the ppk is the polizei pistole kriminallmodel
which means detective model police pistol
the ppk was shortened in length and height so its even easier for a plainclothes detective to carry concealed
it was a very popular gun and used by lots of police forces along with some military people
even adolf hitler used one
so we talked about the 1911 last time
and i mentioned how it has a safety
because unlike a revolver
just cocking the hammer doesnt chamber a round in a semiauto
you gotta work the whole slide to chamber a round
but that also cocks the hammer
and after you cock the 1911
it has a real short and light trigger
so its easier to fire than a double action revolver
oh sweet
but its also easier to fire when its just riding on your hip too
oh bummer
this increases the risk of shooting your donger off
so the 1911 uses a safety to block anything from moving
well the ppk has a safety too
but it also decocks the hammer
walther figured out a way to put a long double action trigger into a semiauto
so now you could chamber a round
then actuate the safety decocker
this decocks the hammer but leaves a round in the chamber
then you can leave the safety on for double safe
or put it back to fire
and itll still a long heavy trigger pull like the double action revolvers people carried for years without an additional safety
so you can carry it in your pocket without risking ballistic orchiectomy
and if you pull it out to shoot a guy
the trigger pull cocks the hammer and releases the hammer
two actions
just like those double action revolvers
oh sweet
and when the slide cycles after the shot it cocks the hammer
so the rest of the shots have a short and light trigger pull so its faster and easier to get shots on target like the 1911
and you dont have to fumble with a safety in a critical moment
plus the other advantages of the semiauto
like magazine fed
more rounds in the magazine
automatically ejects spent cases
daaaaaaang
this was a huge development and copied by literally everybody on pistols large and small
so then the other important technical detail is that the ppk uses whats called a straight blowback action
we talked about the 1911 and how it has those lugs and that lock into the barrel and that arm that tilts the barrel down
that was all necessary because you have to give time for the pressure of the exploding round to dissipate so it doesnt spay burning particles into your face
well the ppk uses smaller rounds that only make little explosions
heres a comparison
the 1911 shoots the .45 acp but the ppk shoots the little .32 acp
dude its like .13 smaller
this makes it easier to deal with the pressure
in fact the walther doesnt have anything locking the barrel at all
the barrel is permanently attached to the frame
the recoil spring goes around the barrel and the slide goes over it all
and the spring puts constant forward pressure on the slide to keep it closed
the spring pressure along with the inertia of the heavy slide keeps the slide closed long enough for the bullet to go out the end of the barrel and start releasing the pressure before the slide opens
this system is compact simpler cheaper easier
its really good
only problem with blowback is .380 acp is about the limit on how big the cartridge can be before the gun starts getting unwieldy
you can go into 9mm or even .45 acp
but they get very bulky and heavy for a pistol
you gotta make the slide really heavy and put a heavier spring
it starts becoming a pain
usually blowbacks in those calibers are submachineguns
so being a simple blowback makes field stripping the ppk super easy
you pull down the trigger guard and push it a little to the side to lock it
then just pull the slide all the way back and lift it off
thats it
super simple
it also has a neat loaded chamber indicator
its a tiny little nubbin in the back you can see and feel to let you know a round is chambered
super neat
some pistols have this now but um
they can get a little excessive
lol
the ppk was such a successful and revolutionary design that it basically invented a new class of pistol and was very widely copied
after wwii the soviets cleaned out the walther factory and with the tooling and blueprints designed the excellent makarov pistol
spain made the astra constable
poland made the p64
hungary made the pa63
guys its a very popular type of gun ok
for customizing it you can get pretty grips and maybe some sights
lots of holsters and other carry options
anything you could think of to carry it
comes in lots of little calibers from .380 acp on down to .22lr
its old but still works really well
i dont own a ppk itself but i own like three different derivatives
theyre all great and i actually carry them
they dont hit hard but they hit hard enough
plus they conceal better than a lot of guns
which is important when concealed means concealed

Unpopular opinion: i never liked the PPK aesthetics.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
hey i mean youre allowed to be wrong this is america lol
ExpertShitposter ago
Im not saying its ugly nor nuffin, but i'm just not digging it. Makarov looks a bit better.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
i like the look of all of them except the pa63
Justsomeone ago
Great post, nigger.
Congrats.
Can you talk a little about the differences between a Walther and a Bersa?
clamhurt_legbeard ago
absolutely
so lets compare a .380 ppk versus a bersa firestorm
the ppk is older by a bunch
that is where most of the differences lie
all steel vs alloy frame for the bersa
so bersa is lighter
tiny almost unuseable sights on the ppk vs much larger modern sights on bersa
bersa has a magazine disconnect bleeeeeech yet somehow no loaded chamber indicator
the trigger on the bersa is very different
it has an externally routed trigger bar
look
its right above the trigger on the right side going back under the right grip panel
kinda weird
and you need clearance
but the plus side is the bersa is widely touted as having a very nice trigger
i agree
Justsomeone ago
Thank you.
Bersas are getting a little easier to get here and half the price of a .380 Glock, so I'm starting to get a little more open to getting one before getting a Glock.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
ive owned a glock 19 and a bersa firestorm
greatly prefer the bersa
Justsomeone ago
Nice.
I'm between the G42 and a Bersa Thunder.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
bersas trigger will be way better and probably flatter overall and cheaper

Roger Moore was the man and the inventor of tactical foreplay. He carried a little bitch pistol and just banged his way out of trouble. Simpler times in 007ville then, clammy
ExpertShitposter ago
From a video criticizing the PPK design: "Remember, James bond never hat to aim, and yet he never missed"
clamhurt_legbeard ago
dude live the dream
bang your way out of trouble in your daily life
Battlefat ago
You know what...you’re right. I’m gonna go start some shit
clamhurt_legbeard ago
be sure to take your womans gun
lol
those things are so fun
Battlefat ago
Tactical crotch carry > Kydex
clamhurt_legbeard ago
bitch im crotch carrying right now lol
Battlefat ago
And with that, Michelle Obama has a plausible alibi — tactical “dong”
Nadeshda ago
She needs a more secure holster then...
Battlefat ago
“Sticks to the leg” is a concealment feature
Nadeshda ago
Aaaaaargh, that’s just a nasty visual...
Battlefat ago
But, alas, a certainty, for those with junk
Nadeshda ago
I was talking about @michelleobamaspenis
Battlefat ago
Now that is the stuff of nightmares
Gravspeed ago
How would you compare it to the p99?
clamhurt_legbeard ago
ive shot a p22 but never fired a p99 tho honestly the p99 is super different from the ppk
p99 is polymer frame striker fired 9mm double stack all that stuff
the only thing similar is the safety decocker
everything else is way more like a modern glock
very different from a steel hammer fired single stack blowback in .32 or .380 like the ppk
Gravspeed ago
I really like the look of them. Local shop doesn't have one.
I was hoping since you were a walther fan you might have some experience.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
i wonder if you can find a place to rent one
have you fired any other striker fired polymer pistols
Gravspeed ago
I've shot a few glocks and a polymer sig. There's a shop about an hour north that has one, I just haven't convinced myself to go there yet.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
field trip lol
Gravspeed ago
And probably a kinda expensive one. it's going to need accessories and ammo too...
clamhurt_legbeard ago
oh no lol
hey i need another revolver for some reason
shits expensive

Good read as always. I really don't need another pocket pistol but that made me want to get another. Bersa thunders are cheap...
clamhurt_legbeard ago
oh god
you mean like this one
its a great pistol and i shoot it better than any other pistols
i dont need a snubnose 44 magnum
but this week i learned about the smith and wesson model 69
lol
thedirtypuma ago
That is sweet. Is it a custom kydex holster? or heavily modified?
I think I would end up getting a bersa bp9 or the 380 version in the end. It sucks when you want everything.
I came really close to getting a taurus 44 mag. I know the feeling.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
thats a boraii holster
highly recommend i have three
the 380 is such a sweet shooter
those grip panels are custom tho
i made those from nguni cattle horn
so good
Nadeshda ago
That’s a very nice looking grip, oh heck that must feel so good! What do you polish it with?
clamhurt_legbeard ago
sandpaper
800 grit
2000 grit
3000 grit
then cloth with polishing compound
same as how i polished my revolver to make it super shiny
Nadeshda ago
On hide? Really?
clamhurt_legbeard ago
horn
the sharp part on their head they stab things with
Nadeshda ago
Oh heck I gotcha, why was I thinking hide? Hide is nice to put yer gun in... oh nevermind me... lol
clamhurt_legbeard ago
somehow its hard and smooth yet not slippery
and warm to the touch
reall really happy with it
Nadeshda ago
The warm part intrigues me... you know it’s been a good night clammy! You did it again! So freaging cool your write-ups and I am super glad I was able to be here tonight!
Like @thebuddha would say...
Best day Ever! :D
clamhurt_legbeard ago
i think its because it doesnt have any thermal inertia in comparison to metal
thedirtypuma ago
Well done. That is a classy looking grip panel. How did you come across nguni cattle horn?
clamhurt_legbeard ago
look at knife scales for handles
i found a website a few years ago with lots of cool horn and wood
looks slick and feels great but even tho i polished it smooth it holds in my hand great

Oooh, Dr. No! what a sexy little number...
Nice article Sir! So distance, smaller bullet, what’s the distance for accurate fire? What’s the weight of this Thunderball? And do I need a Goldfinger to get my hands on one of these? Reichsmark Etc... ;)
clamhurt_legbeard ago
well buds gun shop is out of stock but i think had it for like 530 brand new
historical ones would be more if special and maybe less if worn finish or something
this is the kinda gun you could snag a sweet deal on in a pawn shop or something
distance i dunno
its a defensive firearm for up close
so the bullet would go like 100 m or more
but its not designed for like more than 20 ft lol
the sights are tiny so basically you whip it out and shoot the guy who was about to mess you up in the face
and that goes regardless of caliber
.32 acp .380 acp 9mm makarov whatever
its made for concealing inside a pocket and stopping an attacker within a few yards
perfect for defensive use today
Nadeshda ago
What’s the weight like for conceal carry?
clamhurt_legbeard ago
the original ppk should be like 22 oz
which incidentally is the same as my j frame revolver that only holds five rounds
as a comparison
Nadeshda ago
Nice 7+1 is way nicer in comparison indeed! :D
clamhurt_legbeard ago
plus a mag is way easier to change than revolver stuff
Nadeshda ago
Todally! :D
drstrangegov ago
I'm very partial to the Sig p220
clamhurt_legbeard ago
thats certainly a way to go
i have a west german 226 myself
but uh its a bit harder to conceal that a ppk
not really the same goals there lol
drstrangegov ago
I don't have any guns. They were lost tragically in a boating accident.
Nadeshda ago
Sounds like an interesting story, care to share? :)
drstrangegov ago
this is how it happened, to the best of my recollection. Now, this is a story all about how My life got flipped-turned upside down And I'd like to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I lost my guns on a boat. In west Philadelphia born and raised On the playground was where I spent most of my days Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys who were up to no good Started making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared She said 'You're getting on a boat." it sunk. true story.
Nadeshda ago
Hmmm, I have heard thos before... you bleek?
drstrangegov ago
Nay. Just being silly.
clamhurt_legbeard ago
i have a fucking arsenal
ill show them to anybody who asks politely or very rudely lol
Nadeshda ago
Show me your guns!!! :p
clamhurt_legbeard ago
ok but i have to go to work tomorrow so i can only show you some of them lol
Nadeshda ago
Okay.
drstrangegov ago
Ha!
