Did he die?

TheBuddha ago

No.

Hand_of_Node ago

"Do as I say, not as I do" argument validated. lol

TheBuddha ago

Pretty much!

Hand_of_Node ago

I've missed this up until now, but I'm glad you're still alive. And it's only 66° right now, so I'm feeling some additional solidarity with Maineians. :^)

TheBuddha ago

I got a mix of rain and falling slush today. It was 31°. That did not make me happy. I want 18' of snow this year. Right now, I'm only at 14"! Horrible!

Hand_of_Node ago

When I lived in some frozen hellhole one time, there was freezing rain on top of about 18 inches. Created a solid ice top about 3/4" thick. You could ice skate on top of the snow and drifts, which was cool. And it's pretty when the trees get an ice coating. Was common for the roads to be closed every winter with 12 foot drifts across it down by the creek.

Maybe moving to California made me soft, but I have some 20-24 foot tree dahlias and some 9 foot ginger flowering out back. We actually just had our first real rain of the season (since spring), and most of the tree dahlias flowers have dropped, but the ginger is going strong. My Albanian Red Hots are just turning orangeish, and should finish up within a week or two.

Anyway, stay warm, and don't get trapped in a snowdrift!

TheBuddha ago

Oh yes. We get some epic snow and ice storms here. I have solar and wind, not because I'm a dirty hippie but because I fucking love my creature comforts. I also have a backup house-rated generator with an in-ground diesel tank. I don't fuck around.

When I said I hope we get 18', I mean it. I may very well get that much - or more. No matter which direction I travel, assuming I stay on main roads, I'm headed towards a ski slope. I'm surrounded by 'em. I regularly get drifts that will go as high as my roof, though there's often a space where the wind made a gap between my house and the drift. (It's a saltbox design, so pretty sturdy against the wind.)

If you get bored, look up Mt. Washington. I can see that. Their highest wind speed is 231 MPH - a world record. (That's not a typo.) I live there, kinda sorta. I'm like a range and a half away, but at about 2800' elevation. I get some pretty fucking awesome storms. The house is a decade old and uses J bolts, at 1/2 the required distance, just to keep it secure. If you don't tie it down, you lose it. My chicken coop is secured to the ground with airplane cable and bolted into a cement pad. If it wasn't, I'd lose my chickens. Truth be told, I kind of like them.

I'll get some awesome pics this winter. Well, I won't. I'll send the eldest hoodlum out to take the pictures!

Trust me on this one. I live here for a reason! It's fucking awesome! It's often easier to just take a snowmobile. We have more official snowmobile trails than we have public roads in my neighborhood. Ain't kidding. Look up the ITS. ;-)

cynicaloldfart ago

Their highest wind speed is 231 MPH - a world record.

Not sure which record, but I was ~5 miles away from the highest winds ever recorded. They were 301 mph and scrapped a bedroom community completely flat. Spent that night, and a month more, helping locate, treat, victims and supply the cleanup.

TheBuddha ago

LOL They don't count tornadoes for that.

And, I was randomly tooling around the country and Greensburg, KS had a fuck of a tornado. I wasn't there. I was in Oklahoma. I drove up and helped clean up for a week. This was while I was in the process of selling the company. That was 2007. I was shitfaced!

SirLongSchlongLXIX ago

@TheBuddha raped @tendiesonfloor 's mom in 1990, and everyday subsequently up until yesterday. He'll do it again tonight, but right now he's raping his own mother

TheBuddha ago

Damned right!

SandHog ago

Ouch. Sounds like the DA has a hard-on for your friend. How much was the property damage?

TheBuddha ago

The cost of a telephone pole and a brand new Mustang GT350. My personal injury is well over $200,000 already - and there's still bills coming in. I haven't even seen the surgeon's bill. That's just the helicopter ride, the first hospital, the second hospital - some of it, 'cause they bill separately. I still have nursing staff and PT staff to pay for. That's not included in the total.

I suspect it's going to be closer to a half million dollars, when all is said and done. The car and telephone pole are a rounding error.

SandHog ago

Damn. A friend of mine and his buddy got crosswise with the feds for destroying a $15 toilet seat when they were teenagers and the DA wanted to send them away for 30 years. There were political forces at play there though. It involved some homemade 'fireworks' and a complete and utter lack of awareness on their part regarding the current events of the time. I think they ended up with five years probation and lost their guns and voting rights when it was all said and done.

TheBuddha ago

"There but by the Grace of God go I." (I'm not a religious person, I just like that saying.)

I have zero felonies on my record. I'm not actually sure how that happened. I'm absolutely guilty of many.

heygeorge ago

Oh yeah... that’s likely gonna be a disbarment. I doubt there is much to be argued about that.

DA knows of my position

Which is? He dindu nuffin?

TheBuddha ago

My position is that he didn't act alone and that I share culpability. I have no remorse and think he has suffered enough punishment, as he's pretty damned mortified and keeps telling me how sorry he is. At least once every few days I have to tell him that I'm not angry at him and I don't need his money.

He may not be disbarred. It's a first offense AND he'll plea out to a simple OUI, first offense. So, he has a chance at not being disbarred. If so, he'll be relegated to 'legal aide' duties! Ha! That'll piss him off, 'cause the fucker hardly works as it is!

I am not the least bit mad at him. I don't need to forgive him. I share the blame.

heygeorge ago

What were/are his injuries like? Not so serious, I presume!

TheBuddha ago

He hobbled away. He had cuts and bruises, none of which even required stitches but he got three stitches in his left hand, 'cause hs's a baby. He whined like a little girl while they did it, 'cause he'd been drinking so they only gave him local anesthesia,

heygeorge ago

It sound like he was on the inside of the failed turn.

TheBuddha ago

LOL He was, indeed. COF has seen the wreck and wrote a description in the thread. It's pretty accurate!

Sharkballs ago

Thanks MADD

TheBuddha ago

Yeah, it's his first. I got pretty fucked up, physically. So, that and the property damage make it a felony and they're tacking on the reckless endangerment shit, just to get him to plea out. He's already been indicted by the grand jury for the felony but, like mentioned, he'll plea to a lesser charge and get fucked at the penalty phase. Pleading to a misdemeanor will help him keep his license to practice. If it was a felony, they'd almost certainly disbar him for a while. (I guess those aren't always permanent.)

Sharkballs ago

In my state, thanks to MADD, dui laws are kinda cast in stone. You have to spend BIG to get any consideration from the court. But as you and I'm sure he knows the deals happen at the country club. I wish him well. This is going to fuck up his bank account.

TheBuddha ago

Oh, the DA is Andrews! I know him pretty well. However, Andrews is kind of a stickler for the public eye, as it's an elected position. He can't really appear too soft on a lawyer.

Like you said, they'll continue to hash this out in private. They'll come up with a solution, I'm pretty sure. This was his first offer. He may decline, take it to the start of trial, and then see if he can get a better deal. I know Andrews a bit. He's absolutely not going to want me on the stand. This will never see a trial, to be quite frank.

Sharkballs ago

I know an attorney/pilot in Arizona that got drunk, barricaded his house and shot at swat officers. He kept his license but did 6 months in that tent city jail in Phoenix. He said it wasn't fun. lol

TheBuddha ago

I'm in a very, very rural section of Maine. Our entire prison population is like 1,600 people. The county jail that he'll go to has a max capacity of like 24 people. 'Snot even remotely like what you're imagining.

friendshipistragic ago

So your lawyer is in jail... is your doctor sick in the hospital as well?

TheBuddha ago

Oh... No, he's not in jail yet. This won't even go to court to plea out until sometime in March, probably.

friendshipistragic ago

All you would need is a bankrupt accountant to round off the set.

TheBuddha ago

LOL My accountant is a little old lady who used to work for Maine's department of revenue. She is not poor.

con77 ago

If the table was turned he'd be suing your balls off

TheBuddha ago

Probably not. We're actually really, really good friends. Beside, I already pay him pretty well!

con77 ago

He's a lawyer

TheBuddha ago

Maybe, but we're pretty good friends. It seems really unlikely.

con77 ago

Were you two having a Hunter S. Thompson moment?

TheBuddha ago

Pretty much, except there were no bats.

con77 ago

You just weren't going hard enough

TheBuddha ago

LOL When I last looked over and saw the speedometer, we were well into the triple digit range. The accident investigation says we were going "at least" 120 MPH. That actually sounds a little low, but I am pretty sure he's not going to argue that point for bragging rights.

I am well and truly fucked up. I am on the mend, however! I shall walk and run again.

con77 ago

That's pretty fast You're lucky to be alive There were a few times I hit 140 mph. Once on a bike. I have gone 100 too many times to count. If you told the story copy it to me

TheBuddha ago

It's too long! LOL

https://voat.co/u/TheBuddha/submissions?page=1

The best place to start is here (which is actually on page 2):

https://voat.co/v/SoapboxBanhammer/2813578

There are tons of pics.

Basically, we entered a corner way too fast and he started steering early but there was severe understeer. It was way too late for the brakes to do any good, at least as he knows how to use them. If he'd been smart, he'd have punched the brakes and "loaded" the front brakes. He'd have downshifted and then used oversteer and that might have kept us on the road, but not in our lane.

It was a pretty much brand new Mustang. I forgot the letters but later learned it was a "GT350." (If you're curious.)

We left the road, went into the air, went through a telephone pole, went through a couple of trees, went like 150' into the woods before hitting a large tree and a rock, probably at just about the same time.

The car was torn into bits. The front and the ass end are not connected. Just behind the seats is where the car was torn in half.

In the pictures, the roof is missing. I'm 100% sure that was there and they removed it to extract the vehicle. I haven't seen the official accident report yet and my memory is pretty fuzzy.

I am a fairly adept driver - having taken many advanced courses. I knew, without a doubt, that we were fucked. I could feel it as the car lost grip initially. This was probably still some 300 yards from the corner - rough guess. LOL He kept saying "Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh Shit!" I piped up with, "Look out, coming through!" All this took place in the span of maybe 3 seconds, given travel times and the continued road surface.

I have not revisited the crash site. I'm morbidly curious. We left a debris field, like what you see in a plane crash. The car was torn to shreds and, of course, it sacrificed itself to keep the passenger cabin intact. It did a pretty good job at keeping the passenger cabin from much intrusion, when you consider the speed and many things we struck. The car was torn into two large chunks and a third chunk that was smaller.

I'd love to show you the pictures, but I would risk getting another friend in trouble. The car is in a police impound lot and that's controlled access. I'm not supposed to have pictures.

If you're curious, I guess I can ping @cynicaloldfart (I trust him damned near completely, so he's one of the few that has seen the pics. I might have only shown one, actually.) He might be willing to describe it. You have NO IDEA how much I'd love to show these pics! LOL They're spectacular! However, someone could lose a career over that.

con77 ago

Damn man! I hit a bird on my bike in the middle of the Az desert going 100-110mph. I didn't see it until a split second before it hits my knee. Next thing I know both my legs are straight out over the back of the bike and I have a high speed wobble. I barely pulled it back in and came literally within inches of the side of the road. Hwy 10 west of Phoenix. Hardly any traffic I might not have been found for a while.

cynicaloldfart ago

Yeah, as he said, take a car, tear it in two, take another little chunk off one of those, pass them thru a car crusher one time, and that's pretty much all that was left. He told me to notice the racing harnesses. Once I figured out which piece was the passenger compartment I couldn't even clearly see the the seats, much less any harness. You are, in fact, talking to a ghost.

con77 ago

or a vampire

TheBuddha ago

"Damn man" is a very appropriate response! LOL It was pretty spectacular.

Meh... I'll get better and they keep me stuffed with opiates.

hangry ago

30 days in county would suck for a lawyer.

poptical-illusionist ago

The 30 days ain't that bad. I'd do it all at once. The $25,000 and the license restrictions will really suck ass. Just advise him not to mention being a lawyer unless someone else outs him first. He would most likely get hounded for information on their legal issues.

TheBuddha ago

He's not prosecution. It's also Franklin County Jail - like 24 people max capacity. He actually hasn't even done criminal cases since he was much younger. He's more a business liar/personal attorney. He's like second in line at his firm.

SeanBox ago

What did he do? I must have missed the earlier thread.

TheBuddha ago

It's a long story.

The short version is he was the drunk driver of the car that wrecked and got me all smashed to shit. It's not really all his fault. He was shitfaced and I was beside him egging him on and making fun of both his car and his driving. (In my defense, it turns out he was a shitty driver and the Mustang's still can't corner for shit!)

They are charging him with a strange felony. Something like felonious reckless endangerment and some elevated class of OUI, due to the personal injury severity and the property damange involved. He's just going to plea out to a simple OUI, first offense. However, they are going to fucking hammer him in the sentencing. He can vie for a lighter sentence, and ask the judge to be more lenient.

We'll see. We are still good friends. I ain't even gonna sue him. I'm just going to make his insurance company pay what they will and say fuck it. I share culpability. Maybe not legally, but I sure as hell do ethically. (At least I do with my ethics.)

SeanBox ago

Sounds like he is about to get proper fucked on his BAR license. Sux for him. Mustangs do suck. I have a trans am

TheBuddha ago

It was fast, Credit where credit is due. It was a GT350 and, fortunately, had a built in roll cage and racing harnesses instead of regular lap belts. (It was almost certainly the impact against the harness that broke my femur.) So, it saved our lives.

When it all blows over, I have pictures of the accident. I'm not supposed to have pictures of the wreck, 'cause it's still in impound at the State Police impound lot. Someone could lose their job! So, when things blow over I'll get pics. I might be able to get official documentation from his 'discovery.' That'll mean I can probably share pics sooner. (A few trusted goats have seen pics. But I sure as fuck am not going to risk posting them at large.)

SeanBox ago

I hear ya. Don’t cause yourself problems. How long ago was that?

TheBuddha ago

About a month ago, a little over. I've only been home for a couple of months. There's loads of pics and details in my submission history.

I not only broke the strongest bone in my body, I broke it at the strongest point.

If you're squeamish, do not click these links:

https://imgoat.com/uploads/6409663226/157820.jpg

(That's just a cut and paste job. I broke some ribs, some hairline fractures elsewhere, am still cut the fuck up, and had bruising on 80% of my body - I still do have a ton of bruising.)

SeanBox ago

Pic #2 looks like they drilled a hole in your penis. Things could be worse.

TheBuddha ago

By the way, the above post should have said I've been home for a couple of weeks, not months.

TheBuddha ago

Yeah, it's about 2 pounds of titanium. I will always have that. There's some chance they'll eventually have to go in and tighten that fucker up again. The recovery is expected to take 12 to 18 months, and I have only a 20% chance at a complete recovery. I may always walk with a cane, walker, crutches, or need a chair on bad days.

I'm pretty fucked up. However, I'm ahead of schedule. I not only do my PT faithfully, I do my PT and do extra - regardless of the pain. PT is fucking rough.

kneo24 ago

That's really the only way to do PT is to tough it out through the pain as long as it's not unberable, and do it faithfully. Recovery takes longer and you're less likely to recover if you don't do it like the doctor tells you to.

TheBuddha ago

Yup. I not only do my PT, I do extra reps - pretty much every single time. (With permission, of course. There's a limit and they don't want me doing more than I'm ready for.)

SeanBox ago

Damn yo. I know “get well soon” doesn’t really cover it all but I hope things start improving. That’s rough.

Le_Squish ago

I'm glad you didn't die. I like you, faggot. I know you got plenty of plants for pain management.
