For many years actors were viewed as undesirables (depolorables?). But then came motion pictures and Hollywood.

The Greek word for actor tells us a lot.

Strong's Concordance

hupokrités: one who answers, an actor, a hypocrite

Original Word: ὑποκριτής, οῦ, ὁ

Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine

Transliteration: hupokrités

Phonetic Spelling: (hoop-ok-ree-tace')

Definition: one who answers, an actor, a hypocrite

Usage: (lit: a stage-player), a hypocrite, dissembler, pretender.
