If the concrete is heated quickly and high thermal stresses occur, considerable damage may be caused to the concrete structural elements.Fire can cause mechanical stress and chemical changes inside the structural concrete, which may decrease mechanical properties such as strength or the modulus of elasticity. The concrete heats up from the edge areas, causing drainage and evaporation processes to take place. This causes steam pressure, leading to explosive cracking of the concrete, known as spalling or temperature shock.
This behavior becomes more marked as the strength of the structural concrete increases: the pore volume in high-strength concretes are reduced, lowering their permeability. High-performance concretes have proven to be particularly prone to spalling. In addition, smoke can enter the concrete through hairline cracks that develop when the material is exposed to fire, accelerating the carbonatation process or introducing chlorides, for example, and corroding the reinforcing steel. "
It's apparently common with the right type of fire in proximity to the right type and form of concrete. Do an image search and you'll see pages of examples.
The picture makes no sense. It is what it is. I have proposed no theory, no explanation, so you cannot conclude that I am an idiot. The picture says it all.
Incidentely, my uncle had not stopped interrogating the unrelated witness regarding Antarctica, and a green field near the epicenter of the conflagration known as pizzagate. How do you explain the auras around the infections of the multitudes that have been affected by vaccinations.
Fire spalling of concrete can be described
as either:
● a fire-induced explosion of a whole crosssection,
typically the web of a beam (see
Figure 1) or
● flaking of material from the surface of a
cross-section during fire (see Figure 2).
The flaking process can range from spalling
the outer millimetres of the surface to, in
severe cases, a continuous flaking until the
whole cross-section is lost.
That is apparently normal in an intense fire. Do a web search and you'll see plenty of material on the subject.
Yeah. A weird troll post. I think this pic is from 9/11 which is why all you folks come out of the woodwork to talk about concrete spalling. It doesn't matter. Y'all are fucked anyway.
I imagine they make the floors light as possible, have ever had a fire directly on your drive way, the non uniform thermal expansion will break the concrete. No doubt about it. Given that it's thin shit I can see this happening, especially with all the fuel and rubber and oil burning.
-No Gas lighting. Although the damage is extreme, it's completely normal for concrete to spall in very hot long burning fires. Look into it and educate your self.
-It doesn't make sense to you because you have probably never seen something like that before.
By the way I'm a level two Nondestructive Testing technician with a concentration in concrete testing for refractories. I'm certified by ASNT so I know a thing or two about how heat fucks with concrete and refractory insulation.
We aren't arguing the cause of the fire, only the damage caused by the fire. Some weird shit happened in that fire. However back to the desegregated concrete. Take a look at the aerial picture and pay attention to the cars at the bottom left. See those rectangle patterns on the surface of the deck? That is caused by heat. You can actually see the outline of the support beams that are below the deck. Then look to the left of the station wagon you will see the same type of damage is starting there as well, just not as progressed as seen in the middle of the garage.
I have seen this before inside of refractories. Essentially what has happened is that the incline of the road to the top of the parking garage concentrated the heat from the fire because as we all know heat rises. The fire looks like it was burning for a while and was so hot that the concrete started to break down and started to de-laminate in layers. Concrete is not meant to take long periods of heat and depending on quality of the concrete it could come out from the ordeal cracked up or totally de-laminiated like you see here.
Because a parking structure during a forest fire is optimum target to risk discovery, ppl are stupid. Ok fire Marshall Bills, and yeah that an in living rank on all ya faggots.

I found a slideshow about it. It happened in Liverpool.

Reason they use special refractory in furnaces and not just normal concrete.
14804797? ago
Something funny about the top level not effected like the center ir even the non burned cars.
14803942? ago
This is quite entertaining. They come out in droves to push back. What are we seeing here?
14808265? ago
Looks like someone unfamiliar with concrete, who also hasn't done a web or image search on concrete spalling.
14813870? ago
Lol pushback. You have no power here.
14815816? ago
Pushback against what? Are you a shill for big concrete or something?
14817933? ago
This has to be the most low-energy pushback yet.
You can do better than that.
14803703? ago
Sure the concrete failed but the structure held. Even with the weight of the cars, there was no collaspe of the building.
14803900? ago
Ha ha ha what is your point here?
14804135? ago
Ha ha ha, no point just stating obvious fact.
14803567? ago
Probably caused by a Prius driver.
14803347? ago
Who puts a parking garage in a forest?
14803278? ago
Chinese concrete?
14802539? ago
yeaaaa WTF
14802286? ago
wow... just.... wow... what would or could even cause that?
really, concrete has stood for 100 years and been burned many many times and i have never seen anything remotely like this.
if anyone has any other pics (other than 9/11) please post them
14804725? ago
Burned by what a piece of paper? Could 2x4s. Look at all the accelerants fuel, rubber, oil, plastic.

TY for the reply. It isn't common though I would hope we all agree.
14808232? ago

14807758? ago
It is common to see isolated areas spall. How ever the damage in the picture is extensive and not common. Shows how hot that fire was.
14802246? ago
Oh, you mean concrete fire spalling?
Never seen that before...good grief.
14803856? ago
This image makes no sense. You can gaslight all you want and it will not change what everybody can see in the image. This is not normal.
14811827? ago
Gaslight? Talk to a firefighter that works in a city and ask about concrete fire spalling. Sometimes a fire is just a fire moron.
14813860? ago
uh huh. In this picture, what do you think was the fuel for the fire?
14816871? ago
tires, interior, then dun Dun DUN.... the gas in the tanks. One goes then they all go.
14817873? ago
Ha ha ha why do you even try?
14817956? ago
I know, Tesla Death Ray much more plausible.
edit: you're still an idiot.
14817978? ago
The picture makes no sense. It is what it is. I have proposed no theory, no explanation, so you cannot conclude that I am an idiot. The picture says it all.
14818014? ago
I can also conclude you think the Tesla Death Ray took out everything shown in the link for concrete fire spalling too, ergo.....idiot.
14818239? ago
I have no idea what you are talking about. I just shared a picture. It would be in your best interest to stop replying.
14818272? ago
Or what? You'll continue to post nonsense? Hasn't stopped you yet; carry on with your idiocy.
14818689? ago
Go ahead, keep replying.
Incidentely, my uncle had not stopped interrogating the unrelated witness regarding Antarctica, and a green field near the epicenter of the conflagration known as pizzagate. How do you explain the auras around the infections of the multitudes that have been affected by vaccinations.

This new learning amazes me...

Lol :D

Lol CONTINUOUS FLAKING.
What the hell are you doing here? Did you come here to refute.... What?
911 bots still active

This is a weird troll post.

Yes. So here on Voat we have Nondestructive Testing Technician. Because he follows QRV. I'm surprised you folks are still bothering.

I'm sure there was a Space Program hidden behind NASA and Pentagon budgets.
Shuttle launches were sometimes on the level, sometimes a different payload than what we were told was aboard.
This is common sense, logical thinking.
