With the arrest and soon extradition to the USA of Huawei's chief Financial Officer, things may become very interesting
Further research into Huawei dealings includes some intriguing relationships.
Alexander Downer, the Australian diplomat involved in the Trump Russia saga, sat on the board of the Chinese company in a bid to secure part of the $1BIL++ National Broadband Network technology deal.

China's Huawei Technologies has appointed Liberal and Labor elders, Alexander Downer and John Brumby, to its Australian board in a bid to secure part of the $1 billion-plus National Broadband Network technology deal.
As cyber-security fears rise, Huawei, the world's second biggest telecommunications equipment maker, has doubled efforts to assuage concerns by security agencies, including ASIO, about its feared connections with the People's Liberation Army.
and this
John Lord, John Brumby, and Alexander Downer were appointed directors of Huawei Australia to boost their ability to secure the domestic market for the company. As prominent members of Australia’s political elite, these three specifically have been asked to lobby Canberra in an effort to “overcome prejudice about the company”. Sadly, some of that prejudice flows from the company’s business practices in places such as Iran.
Until late last year, Huawei dominated Iran’s telecommunications business and garnered vast revenue from doing so. Unfortunately, there are also reports that it has assisted the Iranian regime in tracking, silencing and killing Iranian opposition figures. In 2009, when Iranians took to the streets to protest against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s election, Huawei reportedly installed tracking equipment for all of Iran’s telecommunications providers that allowed the intelligence services to locate people through their mobile phones, thus enabling the regime to pursue, jail and kill oppositionists.

Hillary Clinton's brother Tony Rodham is involved in a cash-for-visa scandal involving Huawei.

"At least one of the visa applications was for a vice president of Huawei Technologies, a Chinese telecom company that has been accused of spying on American industries, pirating American technologies and providing crucial equipment to our enemies."

Hillary Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham, has been implicated in a federal investigation about efforts to obtain visas for two Chinese nationals after their applications and appeals were categorically denied.
What’s disturbing is that at least one of the visas was for a Vice-President of Huawei Technologies, a Chinese telecom company that has been accused of spying on American industries, pirating American technologies, and providing crucial equipment to our enemies.
Also of interest is Australian politician Julie Bishop. She was the foriegn minister under former Prime Minister Turnbull and a Clinton Foundation groupie. She was "gifted" an Ipad from Huawei.

So Julie Bishop has a Huawei-donated iPad. Dangerous. Dangerous for her and dangerous for Australia if she becomes foreign minister.
The iPad is but one of the micro details to emerge from Bishop's visit to China as a guest of the Chinese telco. Some Liberals led by Bishop, together with vested mining interests, questioned the Gillard government accepting ASIO's advice against letting Huawei bid for NBN. But the bar has wider significance because the controversy it has sparked illuminates the most vexing issue of Australian foreign policy - our relationship with China.
Bishop's free iPad goes to more than just security concerns over her use of that device. Her views on Huawei, and by extension the Chinese government, show a serious deficit in foreign policy and security thinking.
This appears to be another pay to play scam involving China, Australia, the UK, Iran and shifty politicians...
