2 guys served less than 1 year sentences for arson (2 fires started on their land that spread to federal land in 2001 and 2004) then were sentenced again for the same crime, this time for 5 years.
The federal government has bought most of the land in the area leaving only a few stubborn ranchers.
A few guys with guns are doing what they call armed protesting by occupying a federal building on federal land.
The arson guys reported to jail on time and their lawyer made a statement distancing them from the protesters.
No violence has occurred yet.
The FBI has been caught doing sneaky things in the area like commandeering a section of a hospital, stocking up on blood, and pretending to be protesters.
There is very little dialog between the protesters and the FBI/BLM.
