They need to tip it in favour of the sock puppets.

There are two (2) take away points (many others)

  • at least you know the algorithms worked they were effective in stopping a lot of sock puppets.
  • it's a good sign for the future 'voat' forum.

Voat is open source. The algos are open for anyone to read. If they're modified, it will be noticed, and there will be a lot of discussion.

While that certainly helps if there needs to be another migration, do we have access to their servers to check they're actually running binaries compiled from those sources without alteration?

good point. as this is a forum and infinitely variable it would be very difficult to asses.

A good solution would be to hire a trustworthy intermediary like wikileaks of EFF to audit them.
