This is well known. Where have you been living? Under a rock? Orange squash bad, lol. The squash used by the largest “pumpkin” canner is the best for pie. They grow tons of it for their cannery. French pumpkins are great for soup, if you make your own. Sugar pie pumpkins are available at grocery stores for home cooks. I’ve put butternut squash and orange sweet potatoes in pies and baked goods. It’s all good for you and tastes good too!

Basically just heirloom pumpkins. Thick orange flesh. Great for cooking.
