I read something somewhere about this where the popular bands of the late 60's had members whose parents were directly tied to U.S. Military Intelligence and that their popularity was no accident. The list included Frank Zappa (who actively recruited "hippie" musicians into the fold, but secretly detested them), Jim Morrison, The Mama's and the Papa's, The Grateful Dead, America, and others I cannot recall.
