I read something somewhere about this where the popular bands of the late 60's had members whose parents were directly tied to U.S. Military Intelligence and that their popularity was no accident. The list included Frank Zappa (who actively recruited "hippie" musicians into the fold, but secretly detested them), Jim Morrison, The Mama's and the Papa's, The Grateful Dead, America, and others I cannot recall. If I find the article, I will post the link. Too tired to find it right now.
You can find the same thing in the Grunge period of the early 90's and of course pop music today is 100% full blown MKUltra programming on a massive scale.

There is a book called "Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & the Dark" by David Mcgowan which details this subject.
