I didn't even watch the whole Serbian Film, just wanted to see the hype. I watched the most brutal scenes and that shit is heartwrenching. I can't imagine watching the whole movie and getting even slightly emotionally invested. It could definitely ruin the mental health of weaker indivduals. At least for a period.
Is there really anything to gain from movies like this? I can sit through some pretty gory stuff, but it doesn't give me any joy or anything. It's just horrible. I could see sadists and sick individuals getting off on stuff like that, but I don't see any value in smut like that for others. Some might use it as a form of self harm perhaps.
I liked Saw because it used the horror very well to establish tension. But it degraded into gore porn after the first one so I got nothing out of it. Just shit you don't need to remember.

Any thorough description of the events in those movies would have the same effect unfortunately, there really isn't a filter. Salò is gross, very gross, but A Serbian Film is vile poison.
