Of course the (((media))) gives this guy attention. The media is taking advantage of his attention whore tendencies to make conspiracy people look nuts.
The Earth should be 100% researched outside of establishment space agencies, but his experiment is dumb. His rocket is going up around 2000 feet or so: not too much higher than the Empire state building and not even as high as the Burj Khalifa.
You can go way higher than he'll be going in a hot air balloon if you really wanted a stable, bird's eye view of the landscape.
And the experiment is worse than useless as light bends anyway (on top of normal refraction) so simply seeing the view from that height can't really prove anything one way or the other.
What I do find interesting about his experiment is that his rocket is labelled as steam-powered. I'm not sure exactly how that would work, but it sounds pretty fascinating.
