The laws on how to do business generally just state that you can not promise anything that is not fulfilled, but only in specific cases do they make specific demands of the product - such as only a certain amount of certain substances can be in anything that is used as food.

I think the point is the they don't inform you that their 'update' is designed to break or slow down your phone.
Out of about 12 iphone users I've asked or talked to about this, every single one has had the same problem.
I've never had an iphone, personally
