The ominous-looking occurrence was in fact caused by a combination of low tide, low pressure and strong winds in the right direction, which literally pushed the water away from the long narrow bay. The phenomenon has been dubbed “reverse storm surge” by some of those explaining it online.

Yeah, the general rule is, if you see this sort of thing happening, RUN THE FUCK AWAY, don't walk around taking video. These folks lucked out.

The last time I saw this in a video was from the tsunami in Indonesia(?).

That taught me that if you see this sort of thing happening, do whatever you like. You're already dead.
