I think it's part of an anti-conspiracy double-bluff system. Likely someone has studied human psychological "triggers" to information relating to scandals and conspiracy stories, and found that using same or similar names just catches the majority of people in a cognitive or logical blindspot. While "conspiracy nuts" on the autistic spectrum recognize it as a telltale pattern worth looking into further. Which "outs" them to the conspiracy creators as worth keeping tabs on, and feeding false info to, etc.
See the Charlottesville Patsy and the stunt driver military guy. Nearly identical names. Maybe it just creates enough narrative confusion that the average mouthbreather will just throw the towel in and lose interest. Where the average sperg will wonder why nobody else finds this coincidence totally fucked up.
