I'm inclined to believe Putin over just about anyone at this point. Our journalists are, almost to the man, as bad as the politicians we all know are incapable of telling the truth.
You say that, but how do you know it to be so? He's no angel and clearly hardcore as fuck but he hasn't shown any of the more despicable traits found in much of the west.
Because he has a tight control on speech, and because you all don't try to find his more despicable traits. You see him opposing our politicians and do an "enemy of my enemy is my friend". After all, his lies and human rights violations don't concern us. It also doesn't help that any criticism or issues of Russia or Putin are easily blamed to propaganda. I have seen the discrimination against homosexuals and restrictions on free speech and privacy, so for me that's quite enough.
