I'm inclined to believe Putin over just about anyone at this point. Our journalists are, almost to the man, as bad as the politicians we all know are incapable of telling the truth.
You say that, but how do you know it to be so? He's no angel and clearly hardcore as fuck but he hasn't shown any of the more despicable traits found in much of the west.
Because he has a tight control on speech, and because you all don't try to find his more despicable traits. You see him opposing our politicians and do an "enemy of my enemy is my friend". After all, his lies and human rights violations don't concern us. It also doesn't help that any criticism or issues of Russia or Putin are easily blamed to propaganda. I have seen the discrimination against homosexuals and restrictions on free speech and privacy, so for me that's quite enough.
On the truthfulness scale, Putin is head and shoulders above any pieces of shit that we have as "leaders". At least you can count on Putin to tell it as it is. When was the last time you heard any politician in the US do the same thing?
As for worse than what we have, you jest. Some of the worst human beings to ever walk this earth have been running the United States for decades. Can't top that.

It is Hitler vs Stalin. I consider Putin worse for his opposition to free speech and the rights of homosexuals, as well as other things. But even if he isn't worse, he is still as bad as our own, and that makes him worse since he is opposed to our countries.
