I am going through the same and gmail is probably the most difficult to get rid off. Yandex has good alternatives but only if tou don't mind another government reading your mail, but at least without any real world effects on you.
I'm using Tutanota, which is definitely limited in functionality compared to gmail. But it has the basics and I'm not that much of an advanced email user anyways. I have yet to try proton mail, though.
My newest problem is that i have an android os. Lol. Are you on apple?
There aren't any if you're trying to hide from the USG and its allies. The best you can do is encrypt with serpent and then mars and send it. Hope nobody notices. Stay away from AES.

I actually have a tutanota and protonmail account and pay for both, I primarily use my phone for both services. I have had them for about 4-5 months now and I prefer the phone and web app of tutanota, but I like my tiny email from protonmail (<insertname>@pm.me) so I'll just keep both and separate my eggs.
If you reset the password on a ProtonMail account with 2FA enabled, it wipes all e-mail.
By design, ProtonMail cannot share your e-mails with authorities because they do not hold the keys required to unencrypt your mailbox - only you do.
ProtonMail is for advanced users. Make a mistake and your normie experience will suffer greatly. Used properly, it's extremely powerful to have private conversations.

I used the paid service for a year. The paid version lets you use Tutanota as your domain mail host.
Worked fine. No issues.

A little more? How about completely?

I like tutanota. It's not 15-20 bucks. It's free. You can pay for some extra stuff you don't need though.

They keep metadata
virge ago
I use Protonmail specifically for the Proton2Proton encrypted mail. Are you suggesting there is meta data for two-way fully encrypted P2P?
dudelol ago
Yes
virge ago
Can you help me find that illustrated in their design, please?
dudelol ago
All p2p can be mined for metadata
