There was talk about a Voat-gold type of thing, which stopped when Eddit pulled their shit. If we couldn't keep a legitimate payment method, there wasn't a legitimate way of having monthly payments go through. It's a shame, really.

I liked contributing to reddit. I never did get 'guilded' but i enjoyed gold because it helped reddit out.. It was the sense of community. But you're right. Commenting and actually talking and donating do exactly the same thing.

Many of us who arrived at Voat in the various Reddit exodus waves tossed around the idea of something equivalent to gold. There has been lots of discussion and debate (and arguing) but the end always seems to be about the same: we don't really need gold. Voat values contribution in content and commentary more than Reddit in the sense that we are all on a fairly even playing field here. Gold and gilding simply means people with more disposable income get a "super upvoat" and the recipient is now obliged to thank the giver. Reddit loved that sort of stuff but Voat is better when we have to reply to a comment or post to genuinely praise them rather than throwing money at it. Sure Voat could use the funding for hosting and such so I will try to encourage you to donate outright without the added perks or privileges gold would bring. Voat is not simply a clone of Reddit. It may have started as such but those of us who have been here a while know there is a distinct difference between the two. Voat will find its own ways when the time is right. Right now your contribution in posts, conversation and donations are worth more than gold will ever be. Oh, and welcome to Voat friend.

I just like the idea of generating a predictible source of income for a platform that i hope doesn't go the way reddit did. choosing a pedo ring over it's own user base. What is the world coming to.
