NRA is a non-profit that is too profitable to solve the problems they exist to solve, because all the highly paid executives make too much money being part of the problem.

Dumbest thing I ever did was join the NRA. Hopefully I made sufficient atonement by joining the GOA.

I don't know. The NRA does a lot of good things (firearms education, sponsorship of competitive events, etc), they are just too tepid in terms of their politics. They are worth supporting for their non-political activities. If you are concerned about gun rights, though, you also need to support other organizations.

No one needs a stupid educational group. That happens at your local range.

They are there to defend the 2nd amendment.

They have classes and competitions and things at local ranges all over the country. That's the whole point. For a lot of people NRA activities are their first experiences with gun culture. Seeing the NRA as simply a 2nd Amendment lobbying and lawsuit group is wrong.

If that is your only reason to join, then don't and instead only join the GOA, the NAGR and whatever state group exists where you live. Personally I do both, but when I am concerned about gun rights and contribute beyond my membership fee it isn't to the NRA. When I want to push broader gun matters (like youth events), they

are included.
