The concept of danger doesn't exist for them. They are so sheltered and used to safety, coupled with a vapid, vacuous mind, that the idea that someone might harm them doesn't enter into their thoughts until the knife has already sawed halfway through their throat.

They don't even see these third worlders as people. They're pets. This is like volunteering at the animal shelter for them.

They're used to being surrounded by white men whose mere presence restrains violence against them.

I’ve been in a number of hostels containing the 19-22 year old American girl demographic. I’d occasionally try to talk to them about safety, about why it was important to cover your shoulders, that sort of thing. Either directly or slip it into a story. None of them ever listened. They had no idea.
