Africans and other developing countries were essentially living in the neolithic, little or no industry, technology, infrastructure etc. This is a very inefficient way of life, eg taking products to market on a donkey over a dirt path. The average worker in Nigeria having little technology or organization can only produce maybe a dollar worth of wealth a day(rough estimate) in such circumstances.
If a european or chinese person shows them how to build proper roads and sells them a bunch of trucks they can suddenly produce $20 of wealth a day. They are now way more efficient with little effort, because they now have technology hard earned by europeans but given to them for nothing. Massive improvement in worker efficiency in africa = “growth” but its not because of something africans are doing better.
Denmark has been at the bleeding edge of technological efficiency for a thousand years. Its infrastucture, efficiency growth etc has plateaued. Any new improvements in efficiency (growth) that the west want to enjoy, it has to invent from scratch, which means only incremental growth.

We're starting to see that now as the Chinese move into Africa and supplant the Westerners, thank God.
With the Chinese, the Africans are expecting that part of the deal is that they get schools and medical care. They also believe that if they throw a tantrum and call the Chinese racists, China will fork over some apologies and money. They also expect that they can move to China and when they do, be treated like they are in the UK or the US.
Of course, anyone who knows China knows that these things will never, ever happen. The outcome is gonna be great and I only hope we have the sense to stay out of whatever happens there.

Gdp is a very misleading indicator of the wellness of an economy since wealth is subjective and I can pay a government bureaucrat $300,000 a year to be a communist aparachik and call it wealth production.
But the reall problem with your statement, which implies that actual everyday africans are doing more “self-improving” more than, say, the Danish is this:
Africans and other developing countries were essentially living in the neolithic, little or no industry, technology, infrastructure etc. This is a very inefficient way of life, eg taking products to market on a donkey over a dirt path. The average worker in Nigeria having little technology or organization can only produce maybe a dollar worth of wealth a day(rough estimate) in such circumstances.
If a european or chinese person shows them how to build proper roads and sells them a bunch of trucks they can suddenly produce $20 of wealth a day. They are now way more efficient with little effort, because they now have technology hard earned by europeans but given to them for nothing. Massive improvement in worker efficiency in africa = “growth” but its not because of something africans are doing better.
Denmark has been at the bleeding edge of technological efficiency for a thousand years. Its infrastucture, efficiency growth etc has plateaued. Any new improvements in efficiency (growth) that the west want to enjoy, it has to invent from scratch, which means only incremental growth.
Africas growth will plateau when they have implemented 90% of the technological development of the west. Then there will be no where to go.
Wall Street types understand all this— that you will double your investment much faster investing in an african country building roads than in Denmark. Or Michigan. They covet thiese developing economies because all they have to do is copy the tried and true western model to get huge growth.
TLDR in developing countries you have big growth for little innovation. In developed countries you have big innovation bringing little growth.
I could also talk about how the chinese are dumping cheap money into the hands of african cleptocrats causing a temporary feeling of prosperity which the african people will be paying for with interest over decades but I think Ive carried on too long already.

There might be a valuable online learning process going on within Western countries, but I have yet to see any proof that the internet isn't just a vehicle for degeneration and atrophy on a society-wide scale.
To be honest, I don't have first-hand knowledge on the actual development in Africa, so I shouldn't comment on that. We're always being told how things are getting "better" (more urban, more education etc.) and it would be interesting to know whether that's actually the case. Surely there is a strong urbanization trend across Africa?

Yeah I know what dialectical materialism is, I understood the reference. I’m not a Marxist obvs, but Marx was correct about some of the problems of capitalism, and feudalism. His solution was flawed— let’s make one big fat corporation called The People’s Corporation which will be in control all economic activity, but we’ll only place good people who will act in the public interest in charge, so we won’t run into the same problems as those other systems.
I really think that the globalist system we have right now is very comparable to a feudal one. International corporations and large powerful socialist governments are vying for power and forming alliances, in a way similar to kings and vassals.
Individual rights are becoming increasingly theoretical, as regulation and expense and lack of expertise puts the excercise of those freedoms out of reach. Politician doesnt need to censor speech— his friend at youtube does it for him—“Make you own Youtube! ”

Like it or not, economic GROWTH in Africa is high. There is urbanization, improvements in education, decrease in wars and crime, and an increase in population. An important indicator for "progress" is obesity, which is now finally skyrocketing on the African continent. At the same time, European involvement in Africa is - perhaps - at a low ebb?

Kenya is the best example of a high functioning African country great growth, high literacy, and good standard of living for africa. For fun lets compare Kenya to Iceland. Kenya has 10x the land, over 100x the population yet only about 3x the GDP. Youre talking multiple orders of magnitude more people and land yet only 50 billion difference in GDP.
