DocDroid is a simple PDF uploading site that lets you share and manage PDF content. They also practice Orwellian censorship worse than Google. For several months, I uploaded snippets of my work-in-progress book to this website for the purpose of sharing its content with others. The site operated as advertised, maintaining my files for 60 days so that they'd be viewable to others.

About a month ago, my files suddenly started being deleted within minutes of uploading. They weren't immediately removed; they were removed a handful of minutes after the fact. Upon contacting the site–because I thought I was fucking gaslighting myself–I got this little message. Now, that's not acceptable. Given their terms of service, advertised features, and privacy policy, their completely silent and unjustified deletion of my documents is both arbitrary and questionably legal. I demanded clarification, citing their own website's documents as evidence for a lack of violation. And today I got this.

Now, this whole thing is interesting, particularly given their claimed privacy policy.

We do not read, look into or mine any data from your files or its metadata.

How, exactly, would they have known the contents of my files is "hate speech" (it's not, because the concept doesn't exist) if they hadn't read the files? I understand that they'd have to read documents if a DMCA claim was made against them, but no such claim exists in my documents. The content is entirely mine, and even any images I use are either public domain or Creative Commons licensed. Even if they received a complaint related thereto (I can only think of one source for said complaint), the documents do not meet the legal criteria for removal. I received no notification from them that any such claims were in progress, at any time. If there were no such claims, they admit to being in violation of their own privacy policy. Additionally, they say that the files are not publicly listed, but I was once linked to one of my PDF files hosted there from a Google search.

Boycott DocDroid. Never pay for their services. I suggest Voat even block their URLs from being posted here entirely, under any circumstance.

And can anyone recommend another PDF site for me? Thanks for your time.
