As usual this is all about money and power. The state takes over welfare of the elderly, a job usually done by the extended family, namely the wives and mothers. Instead of being a mother and caregiver they are sent out to work.
The older generation have their assets stripped to pay for their own care along with the taxes from the mothers. Bonus points are with both parents working (((they))) can pay each half the wages and up the property costs. Just compare index linked wages and house prices 1950s to today.
