This was an initiative by the FDIC to basically tell banks who they were allowed to do business with... When it was revealed, the MSM hailed it with promises of shutting down scams, spammers and terrorism. The FDIC had other targets: guns, porn, grey market generic drugs, "coin dealers"(gold and silver), small charities, home security gear, "racist materials"... people involved in these things started suddenly having their bank accounts, paypal etc frozen/closed/banned and forced to jump through huge hoops to get them back, or not getting them back at all. For about two years, it effectively turned the FDIC into a legislative body with the power to ban anything elites/liberals didn't like by waging war on small businesses.

Playing devils advocate with sites like reddit. Voat, gab, 4chan are all making a choice. With payment processors being the bitches they are could reddit afford to risk never being able to accept payments? These payment processors are more of a problem than "advertizers." Advertizers don't give a fuck and there is always someone else who wants the space.
Payment processors earn very little on the margin and require a lot of inferstructure, meaning investors. They are easily manipulated by politics and there are only a finite number of them so it's easier to choke people off through them.
The question I've been asking myself for a long time is what would happen if one of them decided they wanted to take the controvercial market? How might payment processors be acting on their interests in a way I don't understand?
