Brendan Kelly, who is running for U.S. House of Representatives in Illinois' 12th Congressional District has come under scrutiny for his decisions while he was State Attorney. In 2017, he let pedophile Todd Bramlett get off with only a 42 month suspension and no jail time. Congressional Leadership Fund Super PAC criticized him for it.
I'm torn on whether this is a big story or not. He let the pedophile get away with a light sentence but he said that is what the victim preferred. (http://archive.is/kEQMA) Also, his congressional campaign was endorsed by Barack Obama (http://archive.is/WvofU).but I'm sure President Obama is asked to do a lot of endorsements and just because he signs off on a guy doesn't mean the two know each other. Kelly did serve on the executive St. Clair County Child Advocacy Center and Fight Crime, Invest in Kids. (http://archive.is/cPIqs). That could mean he is helping children or he is a bad actor, letting certain kids slide under the radar. However, he was instrumental in ending the statute of limitations for child sex crimes in Illinois. (article - http://archive.is/BMihO, House Bill - http://archive.is/mgQU2, Final Law - http://archive.is/7mRGY). This is a big win for survivors, as many have a hard time speaking about the trauma right away. I think the more I researched Kelly the good outweighs the bad. I figured I would post anyway since the Washington Free Beacon story only covered one side. However, draw your own conclusions and let me know what you think.
