Some synchroncities due to previous threads on Gary Numan, Marilyn Manson, Eel Pie Island...
So today I was listening to another Goth band : the Sisters of Mercy and was particularly struck by one of their songs and this extended version of it - note that this video was made in the Eighties..at the start there is a sign with the name Bush on it and the lyrics are about the fall of an empire, and being caught between two worlds and scenes of faraway deserts...that got my attention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hZGVDzQmoI
Well, the lead singer is Andrew Eldritch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Eldritch
Eldritch studied French and German literature at the University of Oxford before moving to Leeds around 1978 to study Mandarin Chinese at the University of Leeds; he left both courses before graduating.
Here's an interesting interview with him: Cats, Goths & The Sisters Of Mercy: An Audience With Andrew Eldritch
Q. The word ‘eldritch’ is defined as strange and otherworldly. Is that why you chose it?
A. I don’t think I mulled it over much at the time. People say its’ a reference to Lovecraft and his ilk, but it’s actually a reference to Philip K Dick and his ilk.
Q: With that in mind, how on Earth did you ever become a rock star, Andrew?
A: I have a theory that anybody who wants to be in a rock band probably shouldn’t be allowed to be in one. And anybody who’s really good at being in a rock band should be viewed with suspicion. But I think my terror manifests itself in a very entertaining way. And that has afforded me a very comfortable life when I’m not on stage, so I can live with the compromise. I made the pact.
Philip K. Dick https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_K._Dick
Philip Kindred Dick (December 16, 1928 – March 2, 1982) was an American writer notable for publishing works of science fiction. Dick explored philosophical, social, and political themes in novels with plots dominated by monopolistic corporations, authoritarian governments, alternative universes, and altered states of consciousness. His work reflected his personal interest in metaphysics and theology, and often drew upon his life experiences in addressing the nature of reality, identity, drug abuse, schizophrenia, and transcendental experiences.
Turns out Channel 4 television in the UK is in the middle of a TV series based on Dick's stories and it's called Electric Dreams What time is Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams on Channel 4, who’s in the cast with Timothy Spall and what’s it about?
@argosciv can you see the cross between the Gary Numan (electric) stories and Marilyn Manson (dreams) ?
Here is a very interesting article by Philip Dick How to Build a Universe That Doesn’t Fall Apart Two Days Later

So I ask, in my writing, What is real? Because unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust their power. They have a lot of it. And it is an astonishing power: that of creating whole universes, universes of the mind. I ought to know. I do the same thing. It is my job to create universes, as the basis of one novel after another.
Then I went to look for the manager of the Sisters of Mercy. Apparently it was Dave Chumbley of Primary Talent who died suddenly on August 22nd of this year http://primarytalent.com/contact/the-sisters-of-mercy/ http://archive.is/l4lcq

And here's the crowdfunding page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/davechumbley
We have been inundated with requests from many people within the Music Business to create some form of memorial for Dave. An unexpected opportunity arose to allow him to be buried in the famous Highgate Cemetery in London. This a beautiful and intriguing site, rich in history, architecture, landscape and romance. Very few new plots are available each year and it is therefore rightly fitting that Dave’s final resting place will be in a sold out venue with a rare Access All Areas pass.
London’s Haunted Highgate Cemetery isn’t Just a Haven for Ghosts, it has a Vampire Lurking in its Shadows
There are very few graveyards around the world that could compete with the level of paranormal activity happening behind the gothic walls of London’s Highgate Cemetery.
Karl Marx is buried there and some people believe that he was a satanist Karl Marx was a Practising Satanist
His diaries contain a reference to the initiation rites that he underwent in becoming an initiate...
Odd world, the music business.
