I'm kind of posting this for posterity and just to say "I told ya so" as much as anything else. Plus it helps me deal with this cluster fuck if I ascribe some sort of meaning to the current 90 degree turn in American History we're experiencing these days. So here goes.

The first weeks in May have always reminded me of the end of WWII. I think because I'm old enough to have known some of the people who fought in it and told me about it but also because I got a European History degree and studied that period in History extensively. I did a term paper in college about Hitler's true motives for starting a war in Europe. They ain't what we've been taught or so that was my argument. What's very eerie today on this May 9th is the parallel with May 9th 1945. This is just a glimpse of what it looked like:

If you watch that mass of surrendering soldiers long enough it's clear what a watershed moment that was. It ended perhaps the most sordid chapter in human history. It's so strange today because I feel the same "end of history" feel. It's the feeling that some massive force is surrendering. To me that's the Deep State. I wonder if that's what we're all feeling these days. It's so eerily quiet these days it seems odd. There are massive forces in motion. And like VE Day in Europe those forces didn't just stop in one day. It took weeks and months for everything to finally surrender.

That's just my take on things. I've felt like puking for past couple weeks, more so than usual. It's because of seeing humanity at its most depraved and sordid self. It's just like those dirty German troops walking West completely broken and demoralized. That's exactly how I make sense of the insanity we're seeing everyday lately. It's just one long car accident and you can't take your eyes of it and when it's over you're kind of in shock at having even seen it.
