He was shot on the southwest corner of Flagler Place and W Street Northwest. There's no traffic cameras and several alleys, plus there's crime in the area already. If it was planned ahead someone could have simply walked around the corner, gotten in a car and driven off without anyone noticing. If you drove up W and took a right on North Capital you'd be almost a mile away before the cops even showed up.
I find it hard to believe that there are gunshot detectors in the area and yet no cameras. The article mentions that the police have a video that they will not release. This sounds like a coverup to me. Were the other crimes in the area also unsolved murders?
It's my understanding that most of the other street crimes in the area were assault and robbery at gunpoint. There is a market across the street, the video could be from there.
An interesting article by Manuel Roig-Franzia of the Chicago Tribune says the reward is up to $175,000 now, but in the video showing Jack Burkman canvasing for witnesses or info, he says it's over $200,000.
If the killer is caught it could possibly lead to disclosures of insider corruption.

I still wonder if the tunnels are involved, as an approach/escape route for killer who obviously went undetected on any of the street cameras.
