Dr. Taylor Marshall has done some good videos on this. Here's his latest, which also discusses Cardinal Pell and the Vatican Bank, which are likely linked.
Benedict received a 300-page dossier from three trusted cardinals he commissioned to investigate corruption and depravity. Shortly after reading that report, he stepped down. Marshall goes through all that, theorizing that Ratzinger (who just turned 93), felt he was too old and feeble to do the ass-kicking required. A lot of that corruption became rampant during JPII's Parkinsons enfeebled years. There is also speculation though, based on reports that he received death threats, that he was forced out, which under canon law would invalidate the election of Francis. Incidentally, in one of those videos, or perhaps in Marshall's book Infiltration, which is about the freemasonic takeover of the highest levels of the Church, Marshall points out that Bergoglio (Francis) almost won papal election during the previous conclave when Ratzinger was chosen. That means Benedict stepped down knowing Bergoglio was likely to be elected his successor.
