Our very own Dr Kevin Hogan delivers a presentation at Newspeak House on our recent research working with colleagues at West Virginia University in the US on a project to understand the evolution of the Alt_Right as a digital propaganda phenomenon. He describes the early data from research based on interviews with the members of the Alt_Right community, quantitative studies of their activities on the The_Donald and some thoughts on the future of bots in politics.

Alex is a graduate of Imperial College London and currently Managing Partner of Etic Lab (eticlab.co.uk), a UK based research group with interests in Artificial Intelligence, propaganda and online communities. His work has been in creating tools for collective action, the ethics of augmented decision making and modelling online tracking networks. In the COMPROP project Alex has built automated social media accounts, analysed the political economy of social media manipulation, and built a Twitter bot exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museaum.
