Pipex was the United Kingdom's first commercial Internet service provider (ISP). It was formed in 1990 and helped to develop the ISP market in the UK. In 1992 it began operating a 64k transatlantic leased line and built a connection to the UK government's JANET network. One of its first customers was Demon Internet which popularised dial up modem based internet access in the UK. It was also one of the key players in the development of the London Internet Exchange through a meeting with BT in 1994.

David Tabizel (born January 1965) is an internet and media entrepreneur, who was the co-founder of a number of successful technology startups such as 365 Corporation (Football 365, Rugby 365 etc.),[1] Demon Internet, Autonomy, Rage Software, Durlacher (now Panmure Gordon) and others.

..He was also involved in the forming and founding of Metrodome Film in the UK and in Ginger Media's purchase of Virgin Radio in the late 1990s. He also purchased Laughing Stock, Europe's leading comedy record label in the mid-1990s, a company whose artists included Eddie Izzard, Bill Hicks, Peter Cook & Dudley Moore, Rowan Atkinson and Arnold Brown.

David Tabizel has been active for many years as an analyst and a creator and developer of businesses in the finance, media and technology sectors. He has the unique distinction of reputedly being the only British entrepreneur to conceive and co-found three UK companies that have achieved peak market capitalisations of over $1 billion.

In 1991 David jointly founded Durlacher plc, a technology specialist investment bank that achieved a market capitalisation in excess of $3 billion. Initially chief executive, David went on to head up the research division and was responsible for initiating many of Durlacher's largest corporate finance transactions between 1991 and 2000.

In 1995, with Mike Lynch, he co-founded & financed Autonomy Corporation. In the 1990s David also co-founded 365 Corporation plc, an online publisher taken from start up to flotation in 2 years, achieving a peak stock market valuation of approximately $1 billion. 365 Corporation was a pioneer of digital publishing, creating a number of sports websites

Lynch also studied electrical sciences as part of his degree. His interest in electrical sciences led him to meet Peter Rayner, who became his mentor in the signal processing laboratory at Cambridge's engineering department.

After graduating, Lynch went on to complete a PhD at Cambridge in signal processing and communications research. It was titled: "Adaptive techniques in signal processing and connectionist models."
