"Pizzagate" did not start from Comet Ping Pong, nor Besta Pizza. It started from Marina Abromovic, and the "spirit cooking" email found in the Podesta dump.
Researchers found connections throughout the emails that led them to the two pizza parlors. Later, someone on Reddit quipped about this spirit cooking crap starting to look like "pizzagate." Unfortunately, that name stuck. Wild speculations about the bizarre pizza place, it's venue, and it's upper echelon political clients began to circulate, and spirit cooking took a back seat to that.
Something is afoul with Comet PingPong, but I don't think anyone knows exactly what kind of shit they are really involved with. It appears to be a well connected front of some kind though.
Don't let the pizzagate title, or pizza parlor related theories throw you off track though. There is a lot more sickness surrounding all this stuff than most people can even imagine.
