I still think an virtual wall is a better idea. Far less money spent on maintenance and upkeep costs.
Use drones to fly the border. Less fuel overall, instead of troops vehicles. Less man-power. Mostly needing remote pilots watching video screens.
The drones have ground penetrating radar and can do periodic, random sweeps to look for underground tunnels. Over seas, we know in battle zones, drones have do this to find enemies.
We would only need likely 5-10 drones for around the clock monitoring.
We could then use national guard to go into "hot spots" of coyote activity.
A physical wall is all about handing out building contracts and labor contracts. The construction involved will cost far more per mile than a single decade of a virtual wall using drones.
I see the border as a never ending issue. no matter what you do it costs money/time.
Maybe if the looked at the issue from the other side...….
they come for what they get.
It is a never ending issue and some eyesore looking like a Berlin wall is just a massive means to funnel tax dollars to construction contractors and security contractors.
Our military can easily secure the southern border to a far greater degree than ICE does. I'm not saying eliminate ICE. I'm not shouting "send them back" or any of the other crap people spew. I'm saying exactly what I wrote.
An electronic fence monitored by drones and the national guard is far cheaper and more effective, but politicians and the long list of construction logistics chains will bilk the tax payers for generations on end to build this eyesore and maintain it.
Who do they think will walk foot by foot to monitor that no breaches happen? Walls are easy to punch holes in with bulldozers, trucks, whatever. You think ICE will be doing checks along every foot? Hell no. Some security contractor will. Like biannual flight with some civilian recon drone to look for holes and patch them.
Endless amounts of money thrown at this stupid wall for decades on end with zero solution to stopping tunneling under it.
This is 100% about the tax dollars that are going to be wasted and all of the wolves drooling to get their teeth into that money.
