A special investigation by Church Militant has uncovered documents from the archdiocese of Chicago which show that Cardinal Blase Cupich covered up allegations of sexual abuse of children by his predecessor, Cardinal Joseph Bernadin, the most serious allegation being that of the rape of a minor committed in 1957 in South Carolina by then Father Bernadin and Bishop John Russell, as part of a Satanic ritual to profane and desecrate the Eucharist.
