Can you explain the difference for a novice?

As has been said, whatever revulsion you guys feel about the music & writing itself is completely beside the point, nobody here is dismissing you based on the obvious distasteful nature of the band. Given our quick state of accusations, I'll add the disclaimer that I despise the songs myself, & I'm not the least bit defensive of the members. Like many before them, one might end up another famous name imprisoned for rape or murder. That being said, thankfully I grew up with a lot of different friends.

Boomers, of all people, should know what a counterculture looks like. People respond to the authority & sickness of their society in different ways; some angry, some antithetically offensive, or sexual, or cynical or sympathetic. Then once these movements are popular enough, they're commercialized for profit and another one takes its place, sometimes in a form of the old (say a 2010s fashion adopting the 80s, which in turn adopted the 50s.) Aside from political & psychological trends by generation, I bet you could make a strong correlation between personality types & their subculture, hence gangster rap -versus- country folk. Or dark & aggressive, anti-religious masculine heavy metal -versus- bright, colourful LGBT sexualized, pop-music materialism.

The reason I'm saying this is because we obviously attract a certain conservative personality ourselves. Another example is how many here seem incapable of viewing transvestitism as another one of these social protests. Now somehow synonymous with transgender & queer, even if commonly done by a heterosexual, they only perceive the "gay agenda, anti-Christian demonic sexual possession & mass brainwashing of the innocent by corporate & sadistic world order elites." Apparently the same applies to being effeminate, or flamboyant (South Korea) to the point of assuming all nonconformity as devilish, which is exactly why these oppositions exist in the first place (and has been pointed out, existed for a long time. It's not sensational.)

I am here for the same reason as all of you, because I believe there is a sadistic power fraternity. But like most things, a more nuanced & introspective approach is necessary to understand their influence. This is to say nothing about the band in question, it's simply my take on facing our internal problems as a community; that many facets we observe are too willingly construed to a political ideology, or I'd dare say reactionary credulity.
