A former State Department employee pleaded guilty Monday to the production of child pornography, prosecutors said.

Skydance MacMahon, 44, of Alexandria was a digital media administrator at the Foreign Services Institute of the U.S. Department of State in Arlington when he conspired to create more than 1,000 sexually explicit images of minor children, United States attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger of the Eastern District of Virginia said in a statement.

A mother from Halifax, Canada has also been charged in connection with the child sex case. According to investigators, the mother, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child victims, was working with MacMahon as part of an elite pedophile ring that was trafficking children across borders to be sold into sex slavery and child porn.

According to court documents, over at least a two year period, Skydance MacMahon, 45, conspired with an adult in Canada to produce over a thousand sexually explicit images and videos of minor children in Canada. These images and videos were produced at the direction of MacMahon using Skype and hidden cameras as well as overt recording. MacMahon distributed these image and video files to other users and consumers of child pornography by providing access to the files on his cloud storage services and also by directly sending the files to other users. In addition to the child pornography images and videos MacMahon himself created, he also received and possessed thousands of images and videos of child pornography.

Police have laid a half-dozen more charges against a Bedford mother accused of committing sex crimes against her children.

The woman’s name cannot be used because of a court-ordered publication ban on any information that would identify the alleged victims. She was arrested in March on nine charges, including sexually abusing one of her daughters and uploading videos of the abuse to the internet. She was also charged with surreptitiously observing her children in circumstances where they would be nude and had a reasonable expectation of privacy.

In a new, 15-count information sworn last month, police allege the 39-year-old woman also sexually abused one of her sons and surreptitiously observed another child.

She now faces two counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation and voyeurism, four counts of communicating with someone over the internet for the purpose of committing a crime against a child, and single counts of making, distributing and possessing child pornography.

The woman appeared in Halifax provincial court Wednesday by video link from the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth.

Defence lawyer Brad Sarson told the court his client did not want to continue with a bail hearing that got underway in March.

“She does not wish to pursue her release,” Sarson said.

Judge Elizabeth Buckle said she was satisfied that the Crown had shown cause why the woman should not be released, and ordered her to remain in custody.

The evidence from the bail hearing is bannedfrom publication to protect the woman’s right to a fair trial.
