Who? What did de Sade say?

ArmourFou ago

De Sade was a French nobleman in the 1700s. He wrote very graphic stories about people in power sexually abusing others, often children, and all sorts of corruption. The villains were usually politicians, priests, etc. People generally esteemed by society committing atrocities behind closed doors. His stories were often very violent and pornographic. We get the word "sadism" from his name.

When I was young I read his stories as something naughty, but as I got older I realized they were social commentary.

Thank you for the little history lesson. I had no idea! I'm going to check him out now that I have this information. Although, I don't really want to read about children being hurt. Maybe just cliff notes would be okay.
