So, if they were able to get that far in, it means they knew an undisclosed path to where the children were. More importantly, with all the hoopla around it, it would have been obvious and helpful to publicize that "well meaning amateurs" had tried to rescue the boys and only gotten themselves in danger. The only reason not to do that if if that wasn't the reason they were down there.
