The mysterious 11-day closure of a New Mexico solar observatory stemmed from an FBI investigation of a janitor suspected of using the facility’s wireless internet service to send and receive child pornography, federal court documents showed on Wednesday.
The warrant issued by a U.S. magistrate in Las Cruces, New Mexico, showed that on Sept. 14 agents removed from the man’s home three cell phones, five laptops, one iPad, an external hard drive, 16 thumb drives, 89 compact flash disks and other

Relevant to our investigation due to the fact this might be some sort of main hub (CP).

Bleep bloop, someone mentioned this submission!
'Q Trip was hacked and fake-Q posts quarantined?' was posted in v/GreatAwakening and includes this reply from @new4now:
This notification (#351) was posted automatically by the SearchVoat.co Cross-Link Bot. You can suppress this notification by appending a query(?) to your Voat permalink. You can suppress pings from these notifications on request.

@Vindicator......is this something new?

Yes. It must be...as it just showed up. I don't quite understand it myself, though.

I'm still fine-tuning this bot and struggling with the wording. It is definitely confusing some people. Do you have any suggestions for how I could phrase it to make it clearer? Thanks

I think the problem is, people aren't clicking your link. Maybe add a teaser. The explanation provided at the link that I quoted was pretty clear.

I'm not too familiar with the forum and computer terminology, like "query" and "parsing/resolution" and I definitely don't understand how the algorithms work, SearchVoat. I guess it might help people like me if you could answer this: What is this thing doing exactly and why? Anyways, thanks

Oh I think I get it now. That is a really cool feature! But I still don't understand the full scope of its purpose, it does seem quite practical but did you have something specific in mind this feature was meant to mitigate or cause?

Thanks for the comments & questions. My primary motivation was to offer, as you say, a really cool feature!
I've spent a couple of years compiling Voat data for the SearchVoat.co search engine and the daily/weekly/monthly v/VoatStatistics posts. I see posts which refer to other posts, i.e. like "Look what this [negative description of a person] just said!" If someone quoted me like that, I'd like to know about it. Why not implement a bot which notifies the OP when their submission or comment is linked like that? Might also discourage pile-on brigading, coordinated downvoting etc, if the instigater is revealed.
Importantly, the bot pings the linking poster to let them know that the original poster has been notified. I value transparency.
I don't know what unintended consequences might flow from it. So far the feedback has been 100% positive, once misunderstandings have been cleared up. I've highlighted a workaround which lets people prevent the bot from notifying the OP - depending on feedback and observed outcomes I could yet close that workaround.
So, yeah, early days - still waiting to see whether it's worth keeping or not, but so far it looks generally positive,

hmmmmm, will have to remember this
