Because his life is threatened. A dead mans switch is a bargaining chip where if someone were to die, the information would come out immediately afterwards. The man is protecting his life, you really can't fault him for that. A lot of whistle blowers have dead man switches, it's completely necessary in order to assure no one offs you.
this man has done more than enough with the info he's come forward with already. kinda hard to argue what a "good" person would do being that there are tons of good people that don't give up their lives for a cause. What you are describing is not the description of a good person, it's apoptosis and won't do anyone any good. If the people that are willing to out this info keep getting killed, how many will be left?

I certainly don't fault him for putting one in place, although it didn't help Julian Assange much (I believe he is dead and they jumped through hoops to stop his dead mans switch from being initiated, but once again, I could be wrong about this).

It would be a stretch to call him evil for not releasing further information being that we don't have an idea of what the further information contains or that it even exists in the first place. Plus from the title of the thread here is that he activated the death switch, so that may imply that he has already released the info.
Unless his info is that there are a bunch of kids in cages that need immediate saving, or he's got a cache of DNA evidence stored somewhere, or pictures of the priests actually abusing the children, then all released info would be hearsay anyway. A lot of the people that have been victims of the catholic priests and bishops have come forward and we have an idea of which priests have committed these crimes. What exact type of info would constitute putting yourself at risk?
