Because the UK began an intense and widespread propaganda effort in the US that began during WWII and later intensified. The "British Invasion" of the '60s wasn't entirely organic.
Do you recall all the reports of girls fainting at the sight of the Beatles? Obvious bullshit. So I looked into it and leaned only 1 other artist was widely reported to have the same affect, T-Rex. So I wasn't surprised to see that George Harrison had an affiliation with him.
A little off track, but it all ties together. Although child spies seems more like standard practice for "five eyes" nations than exclusive to Britain.
