"ROCKFORD - The son of State Sen. Dave Syverson, R-Rockford, has been charged with multiple child sex crimes, according to Winnebago County court records.

Jordan D. Syverson, 27, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse to a child under the age of 13 and three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, court records show.

Syverson and another man, James C. Lamont III, allegedly assaulted a victim between Oct. 28 and 31, 2016.

Lamont is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13, three counts of sexual exploitation of child under the age of 13, according to court records.

"Jordan is our adopted son who has dealt with mental health issues since early childhood," Syverson said in a written statement. "As an adult unfortunately we have limited opportunities to help him. Other families that have gone through these issues understand the frustration of seeing someone you love struggle with this kind of illness. I respect the legal process with dealing with the issue. We love our son and would appreciate respecting our privacy on this issue." "

The victim was age 12.

Syverson was adopted by the senator at age 2.
