Voters need to be convinced that child rape is the same as murder because it ruins that child's entire life, in effect making it a living hell worse than death.
One strike and you're out because child rapists are not curable, even with surgical castration. It's a sickness in the brain not reliably changed with any known treatment.
As with murder, aggravating factors would be in play at sentencing:
Absolutely true! Anyone who knows people who were sexually abused as a child can see the devastation it has on them, and how that effects them for the rest of their lives. And not just them, but their families and their future children are impacted as well. It's tragic!
