@exposethecriminals, could you edit your post to give some context about who the pedo in question is, how he rose to power, what power he actually has, who financed his campaign, etc.? I don't think most PG researchers are up on Kiwi politics.

exposethecriminals ago

For sure. I'll have to research it, I can start on that tonight. Do you happen to know of any Voat/PG'ers familiar with New Zealand to ping for their insights/links to shed more light on Awanui Black? For now, though, I did find a few things, but I want to spend time interpreting them before I put them in the body of the thread, so I'll just leave them here for now:

His district was in or around Tauranga, on the North Island:

North Island - Wikipedia

The North Island (Māori: Te Ika-a-Māui) is one of the two main islands of New Zealand, separated from the slightly larger but much less populous South Island by Cook Strait. The island's area is 113,729 square kilometres (43,911 sq mi),[1] making it the world's 14th-largest island. It has a population of 3,677,200 (June 2017).[2]

In case anyone besides me needs this, zoomed out view of Tauranga's location within a larger area.

Awanui Black was a member of the Maori Party, their website:

Wikipedia:

Tribute on party site: "Māori Party mourns Te Awanuiarangi Black":

http://www.maoriparty.org/m_ori_party_mourns_te_awanuiarangi_black

Māori Party co-leader Marama Fox said the party was very proud that Te Awanuiarangi chose to stand for it in 2008 and 2011, both for the Tauranga electorate, and on the list.

I don't know what that means, perhaps Black ran in 2008 and 2011 locally, and also for Minister of Parliament for which he came in fifth of 17 people in 2011?:

More from the tribute:

Te Awanuiarangi’s extensive contribution to te ao Māori included:

Te Reo Māori:

Serving as a commissioner on Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (Māori Language Commission)

Being a writer of He Pātaka Kupu, the first comprehensive monolingual Māori language dictionary

Authoring language revitalisation plans for his iwi

Composing traditional literature and promoting and preserving te reo Māori in every setting, particularly his own home and marae

Facilitating the new Māori language entity for Te Mātāwai for the Bay of Plenty

Education:

Lecturing and coordinating Māori medium teacher education at Te Wānanga o Raukawa in Ōtaki

Lecturering at the Waikato Tainui College for Research and Development and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa

Being a leader of Ngā Kaikōkiri Mātauranga– Iwi Advocate for Education which was mandated by 57 iwi – all whom were actively engaged in education activities. Ngā Kaikōkiri Mātauranga was subsequently adopted by the Iwi Leaders Forum to progress the education stream.

Sharing his extensive knowledge generously, whether it was about Matariki, the history of land occupation at Welcome Bay or general proposals for changing the world for the better

Local government:

Elected member of Bay of Plenty Regional Council for the 10th Triennium 2016 – 2019; and being chair of the council’s Komiti Māori

Chair of Te Moana a Toi Leaders Forum (representative for Ngāti He, Maungatapu on the Ngāi Te Rangi Trust)

Elected member for Mauao Māori constituency in which he led the special Memorandum of Understanding between Tauranga City Council and the historic mountain reserve Mauao

He was also influential in the regional council’s integration of tikanga Māori and was behind the council’s adoption of its Māori name, Toi Moana.

Other:

Leading the iwi response to the 2011 Rena disaster for well over two years

Being on the committee for Toi Māori Aotearoa

Being involved in Te Tuinga Whānau, a free social work, advocacy, information and support service to everyone regardless of ethnicity

Helping to compose Te Peruperu a Pukehinahina for the 150th Commemoration of the Battle of Gate Pā; and leading that commemoration

Just a few months ago, he presented to the Grand Round of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board about te reo Māori as rongoā for the health and wellbeing of iwi

@risewithoutfear do you happen to have any information regarding Awanui Black, per @Vindicator's questions: https://voat.co/v/pizzagate/2627154/13261555 Thanks!

Oh! There is a lot of people around the country (NZ) with histories of horrendous sexual abuse while in state care during the 60s-80s. I believe Awanui Black is just one spoke of the rampant sexual abuse wheel.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the man, the first I'd heard about him was when the news dropped this week.

As to financing... it could be the Maori Party or even his own Iwi.

It shows here: http://tauranga.kete.net.nz/tauranga_local_history/topics/show/2850-awanuiarangi-black-1968-2016

...that he is "affiliated" with Ngāti Pūkenga, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, and Ngāti Raukawa ki Otaki.

Ngāi Te Rangi, however, has put up a reward for people to come forward and report to authorities any knowledge they have of the alleged crimes and pedophile ring in the region.

I've been trying to find out which Iwi he's linked to by birth, but no luck. But perhaps Ngāti Pūkenga, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, and Ngāti Raukawa ki Otaki are each linked to his family. (Just to clarify, my family is linked to one Iwi, while my niece and nephew are linked to three because of our family and their father's family).

I'll keep digging and see what I can find out.

Great info shared so far @exposethecriminals!!

Thank you. I really appreciate the information you dug up, it is very helpful

No problem.

There was a new article in the paper today. A victim came forward. Such a heartbreaking read :(

I put together a short post today, going to submit it now, but your info is by far better. I'll ping you into the post.

exposethecriminals ago

Thank you @think- ! Your post is great. I'll use your info, condensed, as background in my submission, and if I can dig up anything else like who funded him, I'll add that in too.
