The description of a partial birth abortion is one of the most horrid things I have read. I did not know exactly how it was done. I recently changed my mind on abortion. I am now against it. Reading this makes me know I made the right decision. Lord Jesus Save Them and Mother Mary Protect Them.
I'm right there with you. I also used to be supportive of it, but now I'm only for it if the mother's life is in danger or the child is going to be born with a serious and debilitating disorder. Of course, this should always be the mother's choice and she should never be coerced into choosing abortion. Another thing is that we shouldn't even be discussing abortion unless it's related to rape because there are so many forms of birth control nowadays. There's really no reason for a woman or couple to become pregnant if they're not ready to be a mother or parents.
In Ireland, abortion was banned even in the case of fatal foetal abnormalities, if the pregnancy was a result of rape etc. There were cases in just the last couple of years where a woman miscarrying her 17 week old foetus died of septicaemia the foetus still had a heartbeat, another woman who was brain dead was kept on life support against her husband's wishes because she was pregnant, a woman was denied cancer treatment because she was pregnant and subsequently died etc. I in no way agree with partial birth abortions but this is a complex issue and a blanket ban on terminations is just going to lead desperate women to do desperate things
You'll get no argument from me that there are certainly instances where abortion should be an option. It should be the mothers and close family's decision, not the government, but I absolutely will never agree with Bono or his propaganda. Women need to be educated about and use birth control if they're not ready to start a family and Bono's liberal views on abortion will soon have people believing it's fine to go out and have fun, then just use abortion as birth control.
I'm all for prevention. The problem in Ireland over the years has been the Catholic Church advocating against birth control, then bundling women (and girls) with unwanted pregnancies into Magdalene laundries and mother and baby homes, essentially using them as slaves, then selling or killing their babies through negligence. They even allowed babies to be used as guinea pigs for pharmaceutical companies testing vaccines. This referendum was seen as a big fuck you to the Church, which has treated women in this country (especially pregnant ones) so poorly and disrespectfully
That's shocking, but I'm not surprised. Funny how the church is advocating for homosexuals now, but haven't changed their stance on birth control. I guess the church views having sex with your own kind is in and of itself a form of birth control.

It's okay to be gay, but only if you don't actually have sex https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_and_homosexuality
