I no longer trust these archive sites to archive our links and keep them safe! Archive offline too!
This is what happened. I made this post earlier this morning. I archived the links that were posted using http://archive.is. At the time, they both worked. Even the Washington Post link.
Luckily my tabs were still open and was able to take screenshots!
By the time I had put my post together and submitted it, one link no longer worked.
This is what was shown...

So I decided to go to the wayback machine and archive it there. It worked fine. This is a screenshot of the top of the page... http://i.imgs.fyi/img/32lf.jpg
I went to double check and make sure the link still worked. It didn’t! But it said it had been archived already 6 times and that 3 urls were captured...

When I clicked on the links, this is what I saw...

A few minutes later, it was this...

I thought that this was really fishy. But I wanted to make sure http://archive.is wasn’t having problems. So I archived a CNN link...
It works just fine...

It was like they were editing or deleting in real time while I was doing all this. Maybe making changes. What’s weird is the original link still worked. Maybe they edited it tho?
I think we should start saving things offline if it’s really important. I remember last year the main site we used to archive images suddenly quit and all our images were lost!
If you make webpage screenshots, you can make it into a pdf or a long full page screenshot. Keep a copy on your computer. That’s what I did... http://i.imgs.fyi/img/32m7.jpg

None of these screencaps display the link used to get to the content you imaged. In other words, your screencaps could be fake.

I agree with you but we must find an alternative for archiving. At least wayback used to give you an "page has been removed" error. This is not the first time both pages have been archived, I got the same error recently.

Huh something IS fishy, although the archive works, wayback's index cant find it.
Archive works but when I tried archive.is it took too long, it was doing its thing but stopped midway (didnt freeze, just stopped loading after 50-100 lines of links). I though my internet connection was shitty so I reloaded the link on another tab while keeping the first one open. Closed one tab and refreshed the page and got the same error.

Archive sites in general are too enigmatic to be considered secure hosts. You really cannot determine who is holding the keys to the server, regardless of the domain (.org .is .ro etc.).
