Just curious OP: Why would you put up an HTTP link instead of an HTTPS link? I'll accept ignorance as a reason, provided you are now aware of the hazard. HTTP conversations between nodes are transmitted in cleartext. And if you're browsing chans in HTTP, well that's just a bad idea these days. 4chan does not automatically redirect to HTTPS.

I just copied and pasted from the half Chan. Not real techie.

I would have done the same. We’re not all experts πŸ™„

The more you know :-) You usually have to type out HTTPS:// in your browser before hitting the chans as they willingly feed HTTP requests. Your browser usually defaults to HTTP as a first attempt if you just type a website address into it.

Does that tell them your IP address or something?

IP's are at best blurred with current methods, so do what you can. The real problem is that the traffic itself is subject to examination by anyone along the route from the server back to your machine. Maybe you care little that so many companies and agencies will know that you are examining PG evidence. But many folk do care but, like you, may not know the hazards of clicking an HTTP link to a chan.
