I find humor complex and fascinating. I have mulled over the statement made by Trey Parker that either it is all funny or none of it is, meaning that all subjects should be open for parody, satire and or ridicule and not be censored. But no matter how I look at it, child abuse just isn't funny.
I am all for free speech. I don’t think we can command the populace to stop with this type of humor anyway. Better, motivate the culture to change. Start with ourselves. Cultivate empathy. Be an example, but not in a self-righteous way. The smartest people in the world have the ability to put themselves into the positions of others and imagine alternate outcomes from given situations. We should strive to develope that habit. When we do, we will stop to find certain things funny. This is a badge of maturity. Rather than shaming and fighting against the ones that are on the fence, defending their right to adult humor and free speech, maybe it would be better to remember that many of us pass through a phase like this (I used to watch a lot of these shows), and find a way to connect others with the point of view of the victims. If the concept of empathy touches their hearts, they will make the necessary changes themselves. If they choose not to, then we are talking about something different. We are possibly talking about someone who, for whatever reason (be it libertarian or egalitarian) feels that it is ok to enable the sickness that we fight against.
Humor is easy to understand when you break down why laughter evolved into us, it was to show an anomaly wasn't a threat. Rustling bushes could have a tiger in them thats a threat, but the poor SoB that is chosen to check finds there are just squirrels there. He smiles and laughs at the tense situation having a safe conclusion. Everyone else is happy because the tribe is safe and they aren't at risk of dying. Since it feels good it's repeated over and over again morphing into something that barely resembles the original adaptation until it's a reflex and normal emotion for humans in groups to share.
Humor is the subversion of expectations without danger or annoyance.
When something happens that you dont expect but it can't hurt you and doesn't add more unwanted work for you to do (thus causing annoyance) it ends up being humorous.
I forget who said it but a comedian once said
"Tragedy is me getting hit in the balls. Comedy is someone else getting hit in the balls"
For the viewer there is no danger. The situation is against expectations though for a big man to be brought to the ground in the fetal position by such a simple strike.
When comedians tell stories that are humorous they tell something banal that a lot of us usually have experience with but the comedy comes from adding in unexpected things. Your brain doesn't expect it to go in that direction, there is no danger felt for the thing, therefore it is funny.
If you understand something is a real threat though then you'll no longer find that thing funny.
The farther you break with the norm and push towards taboo and unexpected without creating danger or concern the more humorous it becomes.
For an extreme example,
Rape jokes can be funny to someone who hasn't been raped or has little chance of being raped. To someone that has been raped though the concept still signals "REAL DANGER" in their brain so they wont find it funny. Theres also the psychological thing where sometimes the rape victims will make those jokes but that is made for a different reason as a coping mechanism for their experience and is a whole different discussion.
These pedo and child rape jokes are funny to some people because
1) theyre completely unexpected and far from the social norm
2) they are so far removed from the concept that it doesn't signal danger in their heads and causes no concern
3) it displays a real danger in a lighter safe way
Now when you actually understand just how bad things are and how much of this pedo shit is allowed to go down unopposed, and how horrible it is for children right now then that stuff is no longer funny. It's a concept that causes concern and signals danger in the brain. So not something to joke about.
To make a subject like that humorous without disgusting the audience the joke can only scratch the surface of the concept.
If the jokes went into detail showing the child being beaten then brutally sodomized then it'd no longer be funny. People making comedy have to skirt the line sometimes of not becoming too detailed in making the dangerous humorous in terms of concepts, otherwise the audience will get turned off. That causes a joke to be in "bad taste".
You don't find it funny because you know more about the subject and can no longer separate what you know from a surface scrape attempt at humor. It especially gets worse when you know it's people in that industry doing it and some of it is actually bragging parading as humor.
Dead baby jokes aren't funny if you have a dead baby. That's another good way to show what i mean. If you understand the threat on a personal level you cant gain humor out of it because you can't turn off your brain when this person tries to portray this things as "not a threat"
Theres also disgust such as with amy schumers smelly vagina bullshit. Her attempt is to create an unexpected situation "tee hee a woman talking about her vagina. How out of the ordinary and shocking" but she does it in a way that causes disgust in the brain because she keeps going on and on going too far into detail and disgust is just an offshoot of the danged warning coming from your brain telling you to avoid things due to disease.
There are a million subcategories of humor though and reasons we find different things funny, so it'd take forever to explain why each individual thing triggers that response
Joking about child abuse is called grooming. It works more times than not subconsciously, for even the "woke". Humor is positive reinforcement modification on emotionally vulnerable and/or intelligent humans. Children are the easiest, which is why centralized education can subvert almost all the children with indoctrination.
I used to joke about at times with "edgy" friends and laugh at "wrong" stuff long before I ever found out about pizzagate, and I can assure you it is not "called grooming".
